what should i get? i want my car to handle very good(500 wont get me to far here...but i dont wanna go in the wrong direction) i need to replace the front coil springs, the rear leaf springs, and the shocks all around. after that i have about 500 left to spend on my suspension...any ideas?
Upper Control Arm bushings would help, there not expensive, aftermarket Mustang springs are in-expensive (mine were 35 bucks at NPD) sway bar bushings and end links.
unless your making a drift car or something stock tie rod ends should be fine. before i did mine i would get alot of wobblw and vibration above 60mph, now its straight as an arrow.
Replace all bushings and ball-joints as needed. Install polyurethane sway-bar bushings. Install new rear leaf-springs. Get alignment. New OEM-type shocks. That will go a long way toward improving handling. Cutting 1/2 to 1 coil from front springs can help too...
Find a V-8 sway bar.....I think they are bigger.....if I remember right. If you can find a rear-sway bar that'll make a HUGE difference!!!! And like everybody else said- new bushings, you might wanna replace the upper control arms (mine torn out one time.....NOT GOOD!! ) new shocks (OEM or upgraded), new front springs, new rear leafs and shackles (not shackles to raise the rear, just regular shackles) I bought my 4 leaf rear springs from JC Whitney (55.00 dollars a side and I LOVE em!) When you replace your front springs, get new spring perches.......more might come to me.....trying to remember what I've done to my car.......Good Luck!!
There is no difference in sway-bars between V-8 and I-6 models. Most are 3/4", but an optional 7/8" front bar was available from '75 & up...
$500 should be able to do some pretty good stuff for you. I did 4-leaf springs from JCWhitney for around $100, new front coil springs (JCWhitney another $100 or so, probably less). Swap those sway bar bushings for $10. Cal-Tracs are nice for $300 if you have that left over, but I would skip it unless you are drag racing. Replace anything on the front end that has old rubber first. I took my stock tie rods off and was very amazed to find that some had dried up and were almost solid and didn't move. Some were limp and floppy (not sure which is worse and more dangerous )
I wasn't sure. I got my sway bar off of a V-8 Sprint in a junkyard and it WAS bigger than mine. However, it may well have been an aftermarket one that somebody put on way back when.....
right now, i just want to make it handle well, i live in a mountainous terrain and i like to take the turns a little harder than i should...lol
