Anyone running one? Now that mine is running very well, I am getting bored! I am looking for a '32 for my wife and that may get my motor. Which means I may have a vacancy between my fenders and i am thinking of more cubes. Anyone happy with a 408? I am talking to BADASS racing next week as they are close by. Thoughts?

well I don't have a 408...but I have a 414" (.060"). What do you want to know? I've got one in the Maverick right now, and one going together. The one in the car is ~625 HP and the one on the stand should be about the same, maybe a couple more.

    Don't have a 408 but I have a 395, and I don't get bored, that's for sure.

Thanks for the input. I am just window shopping right now. IF we find a '32 I am just considering my options for the Maverick. I do have a 351 core sitting around and Badass does a great job as well if I want to go that direction. Thanks guys..

A buddy of mine has built several 427w engines.

He put Cleveland heads on one and stuck it in a 65 Stang coupe.
Everyone that has ever ridden in that car says it's the scariest car they have ever been in.

There is only one downside to a GOOD built 408.

They eat up tires in a hurry.

Cost wise, it's only a couple bills more than a good built 351w stock stroke engine. I'm perfectly happy with mine. In fact, I'm totally stoked that it runs as good as it does with the minimal investment. Everyone asks how many cubes the big block is after I make a pass at the strip. That's always good to hear that....and even neater when they find out when it's only a 351 stroker.

These days, it's just as easy and just as cheap (actually cheapER) to build a stroker windsor as it is to build a big block....or 347 for that matter. In fact, the ONLY reason I can see that I'd ever go with a 347, 331, 302 is if a 351 won't fit.

    Agreed.

The cliche' comes to mind, "There's no replacement for displacement".

Are you guys hacking shock towers or how much modification to get the motor in and what headers are you running? I've seen the Hooker 6208s work

You don't wanna know what it took to make mine fit!

BUT I will add that before I did all the mustang front end stuff, I had a stock chassis/suspension Maverick front end, but with trimmed towers. Fit was "ok". Headers were a royal pain in the butt and I think I invented some new words while building them. Installing them was worse. By then I was out of new words so I kept using the old ones over & over until they were in. Could have been avoided if I'd have bought the tubular automotive 351w swap headers, but I felt that the tubes were a little restrictive for what I was doing so I made my own. 1 3/4" x 38" long primaries 3" collectors, no tailpipes. Collectors exited just under the doors. Loud: yes. Sounded good though. Tried a pair of Flowmasters on the end of some 4" pipes that ran from the collectors, down the rocker panel (but kind of tucked up there as best I could) and the mufflers were back just in front of the tires. It slowed the car down about .4 in the 1/8 mile, no problem, but one of the lock tabs broke off & the pipe fell down one day, so I pulled them off complete to make the rest of the race and just never put 'em back on.

Anyway, long story short, everyone asks if a 351w will fit. Yep it fits. But it's not fun to have to work on. I usually tell everyone who asks...if a 351 will fit, it would be my first choice but in this case I think a 302 or 302 stroker would be a better option because it just fits the chassis better. And that's especially true for folks like me who have the engine out a couple times a year. I just can't leave anything alone.
