Ok, got it all wired up but I have even more of a mess under the hood. I was going to run the new battery/alt/fuel pump wires along the pass side and drill a hole in the firewall, but found that there was more room to work on the driver side (heater box in the way on pass side). So, drilled a hole, put in a grommet, and ran the wires under the driver side kickpanels. Now, they come out right under my driver side rear monte carlo bar, and I need ideas on how to route it to the starter solenoid and alternator in a clean fashion. Currently, I have all 25' of each wire connected, so there is 6 feet extra wire so I can cut and move as needed. Once I find the correct route, I will cut them down and mount them, but for now, I just had to get it running and recharge the battery (it BARELY started since it has sat for 2 months without running). I am thinking just run it along the firewall and under the monte bar in a black wire loom, but just wanted some suggestions before I cut the wires down to their final size (especially the battery cable that I just spent $80 for!!! ) I don't want it looking this crappy when I finish...:16suspect
Split Loom Tubing, cable clamps, and zip-ties will help a lot. I have my wiring running along the passenger side. I also have the starter solenoid there also. It seemed to be the most logical place for it. Again, as long as you can loom and zip-tie your wires, you'll be fine, I'm sure. Also, sounds like a lot for the battery cable. I went to a Welding Supply store and bought the 00 gage "grounding" cable. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but it wasn't that much, I'm sure. Anyway, good luck and 'glad to hear you got it going again.
Same as Rick.....use the split tubing to hide the wires together. I also used welding 00 lead for my battery cables. TOdd
Just curious why you ran the cables along the driver side? Normally the battery is put on the passenger side of the trunk to offset the weight of the driver and since the selenoid is on the passenger side you have an aufull lot of extra cable running from one side of the car to the other. I'm not picking on ya just thought it would be alot easyier to tidy up if everything was running along one side instead of crossing over like that. Derek.
I'll have a 15Lb bottle of Nitrous (plus the weight of the bottle) on the Passenger's side (if you're talking to me?). It could've been because I'd been drinking that day, too.
Scoop, I am 90% done with the starter solenoid to the trunk move. Along with a new 1 wire alternator there are a a lot of wires gone! I wil post this week the before and after pics. Gets rid of a lot of wires.. Scott
I ran mine through the rocker panel and out into the wheel well. They come in just below the solenoid.
Mavaholic, I was going to do what you did, but I couldn't figure out where to drill the hole in the firewall to get the wires into the fender well. Could you post a pic of how they get into the wheelwell?
I basically did what Dennis did.....minus the fact that his looks 10x's better than mine and I left my silenoid in the fender :16suspect
The car is not accessible right now. If it is nice this weekend, I will dig it out and get some pictures.
Scott, I think I owed you this pic. It went well and took a lot of wires out of the engine compartment. I still need to finish the panels to enclose the trunk. And YES, I do have a firewall, just not in yet.
Thanks for the pic, that looks really clean I have my engine compartment wires all cleaned up except for right before where they go to the alternator, fan relay, etc. Took quite a bit of work, as there are many wires. Then when I got done, I found two that "got away" and are still just dangling in there But for the most part, it looks MUCH better, just one big black tube, that slowly gets smaller each time a wire leaves it for it's accessory.
