i have a 72 with a 200 I6 and i have rebuilt the carb recently(1000 miles) and it acceclerates faster at 3/4 throttle than at WOT. is this because i have the screw inside the crab turned in to much, i opened the carb up and backed it out 2 turns, and now it's slower in general...gonna let it cool down and turn it in one turn and see how that does...any other suggestions...also, when i get off the throttle, you can smell something...maybe gas...smells like it's running rich, but only after i get off the pedal...thanx in advance

that's probably because you are still pumping gas at a high rate and taking the foot off the accelerator pedal means you are now not using it. gotta have somewhere to go.:)

Look in your rearview mirror under full acceleration next time. Running rich will usually cause a trail of dark smoke.

What kind of carburetor are you working with? What screw are you adjusting on the inside of the carb? All the screws inside the carb are supposed to be tight.

to be honest...i forgot the name of it, it's inside the carb, and has a long jet that screws in next to it, if you screw it all the way in, it hits a plate...i hit the plate and backed out 1 turn...and hit my best top speed so i'm gonna leave it...lol unless u can tell me what to do otherwise?

Without knowing what kind of carb you have I can't even know for sure what you are talking about.
