Today i took my car for the first drive around the block. the problem is it wouldnt shift. my dad told me to check the vacuum lines. theres one that leads to the intake and its plugged in. but theres one more thats attached to that one, they both appear to be coming from the transmission. the one thats attached to the first doesnt have a rubber hose on it, and it turns up just before the block and goes straight up about an inch away from the firewall. where does this line plug in at? my engine is a 250 inline.
ok there we go....the ones that the arrows are pointing to is the line i'm confused about....it looks like it just goes to that thing on the firewall but thats just plugged off
The one that you have a black arrow pointing to is the transmission's vacuum modulator line. Connect it to manifold vacuum and you will have it made.
so if thats what that one is whats the other line thats coming out of the transmission and goes to the intake?
Does your vacuum modulator have two connecting points? If so you want the rear most one connected - the other one goes to the EGR port on the intake and it is used to retard the shift.
The rear-most line on the modulator goes to the intake manifold. The other one can be plugged at the intake and removed from the modulator. The next time you replace the modulator get the "green stipe" single port modulator. In the mean time it won't hurt a thing to just leave that second (center port) port open to the air.
ok so... i went to checkers today and got a green srtip one to replace my red one...but my red one has the ports on the side where as the green ones are on the end, and the plate to mount it covers up the back... so i dont know if this will work, my parts car has a single input one... but i cant figure out how its held in there. so what do i do? should i cut the back of the bracket so i can get a hose on it?
This thread seems familiar... My transmission has two lines going from it also. A narrow one and a larger one. In your first photo, there is a vacuum block on the firewall with two ports. Mine has four ports, two narrow and two larger. I replaced ALL the hoses and my car shifts better.
