Where is the best place to buy replacement shocks (front & rear) for a '76 two door with an 200 straight six....
I have found a lot of places don't even list a Maverick. Is it safe to pick a Ford Granada? Would they be the same?
I shopped around online. Some places didn't list the Maverick, some did. Some only listed air shocks for the rear. I ended up buying them on-line at AutoZone, and they will ship them to my door for free! They are Gabriel Guardian shocks, price was $14.99 each, pretty good price I thought. Art
That's a pretty good deal. The fronts are similar to Granada and Mustang, while the rears only interchange with Granada (and 1950s Rancheros, of all things). It's not like finding Granada shocks is much easier.
"It's not like finding Granada shocks is much easier" LOL.... That may be true, but at least the "Granada" is typically listed as a model in many of the drop down lists. It's funny since the Maverick was so popular when introduced (broke the sales launch record of the Mustang) that often it doesn't even exist on many sites as a model that Ford even built!
He said "replacement shocks". KYBs are expensive and totally unnecessary for a Maverick unless it has a trick suspension that is used for road-racing...
I've bought all my shocks off of eBay .... always folks selling old stock stuff that is not longer even made for Mavericks ...
Granada shocks use a stud mount at the top,Maverick uses a cross bar the Granada shocks will not work.
Got KYBs on mine too. I'm not rising to that sticky bait. I might get another F.U. PM from our resident expert. I also have the cross bar style in the rear, and I bought ebay KYB Gas-adjusts for the Granada application, as KYB discontinued them.
Auto Zone and Checker both sell stock-type (but gas-charged) Monroe shocks for Mavericks. They run from $12-$15 each...
