need help w/steering stuff

    It is a maverick 73 rebuilding it and powering up
    :Welcome: HI i need some help with my ugly steering system my car is a 73 302 with hydraulic steering but it sucks:mad: because it is too loose and when im going fast it starts to shake from one side to other, and I was thinking about taking off that system and placing the manual one do you know if its posible and how can I get it done? thx 4 all

    The hydraulic steering might suck compared to modern steering systems, but it does not suck in the sense of "shaking". If you do change over to manual steering the shake will most likely still be there. It's caused by worn out parts. You should inspect each joint for excessive play.

    Also, but probably lessor so, it could be your alignment, wheel bearings, and/or wheel balance.

    Power to manual--- remove the power ram, pump and hoses. Replace with the manual drag link and pitman arm. You're done. But i also would take heed to rocco's advice about checking the rest of the steering and suspension parts. AutoZone.com carries the replacement manual drag link and pitman arm, you're looking at $130 for both.

    1966 Mustang, 1972, 73, 73 and 73 Mavericks
    Fix the worn out components and the shaking will go away. The other changes can be made after it is fixed but you probably won't need to change anything then.
    If you swap from power to manual you will still have to replace the worn parts.
