    1973 Maverick 2 door
Hello everyone, I am a new member and a new Maverick owner. My Maverick is a 1973 2 door model with 125,000 mile on it. My father-in-law brought this car to me about a year and asked me to fix it up and get it running for his mother (grandmother-in-law). Long story short, this car has been in the family since it was new. I took it from not running and in rough shape, to a perfect little car. Grandmother-in-law passed away about one week before completion, so my father-in-law gave it to me. I still have question I need answered and so I thought I would try here.

Anyway, I have manage to locate the factory manuals for this car from Ford and made most of the repairs myself.

    But....

I have a problem I cannot seem to find. I have a flex fan (is this a factory item?) and it sounds like it hitting th fan shroud. I replace the motor mounts and re-aligned everything and I still get the noise only when I get my foot into it. It doesn't appear to be making contact with the shroud and the flex fan doesn't appear to have any cracks in it, so I want to know if anyone else has had a same type of problem

that is a great looking car!!!!!!

as far as the noise goes, could it be hitting your tran's cooler lines?

I have a friend that has the same "rattle" under heavy foot.

    :Welcome: :Handshake

try taking the ...fan off... put your foot in it and see if the sound is still there. could be something else.(flexplate, spark knock etc.etc.).

when you say "put your foot in it" are you talkin about ...under load?

    Welcome to the site.

Good luck on the problem. Wish I could help ya. Other than the motor supports being worn out, I wouldn't know.

Welcome! Nice car. Wild shot here, could you be hearing pre-ignition? (spark knock, pinging, valve rattle) If fan is hitting you should see marks. Good Luck
