started out going to a car show at the williams family auto mall in Elkton Md. didnt see anything maverick/comet, even though a veg@ in the far off distance from behind got me eally excited still in all, it was a fun time later that afternoon my travels took me too the Pike Creek DE. cruise in. a total of 3 mavericks in attendance plus mine, a 72 4dr(the dark red one i posted pics of last week), 70 2dr ,and another white 2dr with NJ tags. the guy with the 4dr just bought a house around the corner from me and i didnt even know it untill tonight. another maverick owner who brought his fairlane instead gave me the line on a old beat grabber in someone's driveway about 10 miles from my house. He thinks i should be able to get it for $300 at most, its in a "poor" part of town on flats looking really neglected. yes its a small bumper with a grabber hood im riding out tomorrow to check it out, wish me luck. so about a hour ago im at the gas station with the comet, and a lady compliments me on it, says its a cool car. I smile and say thanks then she tells me she just got her grandmother's '73 4dr maverick back from the junkyard. its sitting on blocks in the drive way with the roof riped off(the fork lift at the junkyard did that) she must have been really attached to want it back in that condition but i still inquired to see if she wanted to sell it or parts to me, and she gave me her number. its a I6 3 on the tree manual. hopefully she'll be happy to see it's parts live on in good hands (for a fair price) I was also happy to hear that the car is really close to the grabber im checking out tomorrow so i wont be wasting too much time driving around town. well hope my exciting saturday is fallowed by another fun filled Maverick afternoon tomorrow
Sounds like a pretty exciting day and all pumped up waiting for Sunday so you can go checkout Grabber, very cool. I spent my day under my Mav finishing up a motor tranny swap.
im also going to check out a '78 Futura thats being parted out in the newspaper. im not AS excited about it since not much will fit on my mav or comet but i'll check it out anyway. Its a I6 auto. If anyone could give me a heads up as to the valuable/usefull parts i'd apperciate it.
one guy at the show tonight did NOT have a good time. the lot for the show filled so they started putting people out on the grass field. so one of the first guys they sent out was in a red 2000 somethin' mach 1 4.6. so hes rolling across the field and his pront pasangerside tire falls down into a 2 ft deep hole! they needed a truck to pull him out. there didnt appear to be any body damage but who knows what kind of suspension and alignment issues will be comming his way. OUCH!
Sounds like a great day you had, got the bug here in cold, rainy Ohio to get the cars out and do some shows.
so i checked out the '73 first. HORRIBLE condition. no roof!, every metal panel was rusted out. it looked like someone took a axe to hood and trunk. no tires. has 5 lug drums all around. as far as the good stuff, it has the smaller '73 bumpers but really rusty and the back was bent. had the crosshair turn signals, nice dash and door panels, the 3 on the tree was converted to floor shft when the tranny shop couldnt find the correct linkage. good glass and if there were tires on it it would have been drivable. imagine that lol. she didnt want to part with it but it looked like she was on the brink of giving up, so i left my number im sure i'll ge the call in the comming months moving on to the grabber. took me an hour to find it. it was actually a '77 floor shift auto bench car converted to small bumpers, grabber hood, grabber spoiler and sport mirrors with the original 302/c4 under the hood. needless to say the guy was not intrested in selling it. cant believe he could even fit in it, he was like 9ft tall! its rusting out on flats in his backyard right now. anyway, sorry to say no new additions to the heard or parts pile
