Well, my husband and I took a closer look at my old mean Mav that's been out to pasture in the Northwest weather for approx 15 or more years. Doesn't look good. Hood and bumbers rusted, inside moldy and there are hornets taking over even in the trunk. I don't think there's much that anyone could use, but I don't know much about this sort of thing. Things like door handles or hubcaps, but I know that's nothing. Why am I so sad??? This is so dang hard! Obviously I need help. Maybe it's time for her to be reincarnated. Hubby wants me to make that call in the next day or two to the guy who will tow her away and make $60 when he takes her to the "yard". Anyway, just looking for a little help in feeling like "it's time and ok to let go". Anyone? Thanks for understanding. I know you do. Melanie
sorry to hear that it's going. sometimes it's easier. what engine does it have in it? might be able to make some money selling some parts off of it before it goes. you never know. good luck.
If it has been sitting outside for 15 years non-running....then it is already "gone" to Maverick Heaven. Might be time to haul off the carcass. I am sure somebody on here might be interested in buying it for parts.
im sure you could find at least that much worth of parts in it before you towed it off. if its a v8 car the frame mounts and other v8 convesion parts could probably get you $60x2. take a fw pics and post 'em up. it'll be alot easier to pass judgment i we can see it. either way, sorry for your loss.
Might want to call the local car shredders yourself and find what the going rate is for cars. Here in Jax, FL it is near $5 per 100 lbs, so for a car that weighs say 3000 lbs, the is $150. Mind the fact that you will have to remove the battery, tires and freon, but after you sell the sought after parts, and the higher priced scrap like the radiator, you will have alot more than your asking price of $60. If you find car prices are in the dirt, say $2 per 100 you might be better off letting someone else do the hauling, but it would still be worth $60 across the scale if it was as light as 3000 lbs. Just my . rk
I had my 74 V8 2 door 3 speed on the scale and it tipped 3320. I know they all vary depending on what is in them, I am sure mine is less than that now since I went to the 73 style bumpers and chunked the cast iron 2 barrel intake for the aluminum 4 barrel, removed the factory sound deadening asphalt mat in lieu of the fat mat, the seatbelt interlock system is gone in its entirety as well, all small stuff in the end, but have not weighed it since, but I am betting it is only a few pounds lighter since I also added the grabber rear spoiler, front and rear valances as well as a larger front sway bar and the addition of one at the rear, plus dual exhaust. The weight will go up again once the 4 speed gets put it to replace the 3 speed, plus the subframe connectors. Change that, I expect it to be heavier than 3320 lbs. Also went with a 7 blade fan and clutch and a 3 row vice factory 2 row radiator. Only the scale will tell. rk
...for Melaies' sake could we stop talking about cutting, stripping, parting and crushing a car. a moment of silence is more of what she needs. .............................................................................................. .............................................................................................. thank you, "may it rust in peace" ...Melies' friend Frank...
I agree with Craig, Post some pictures and see what people can use of fthe car before its crushed, at least a part of it can live on in others... Glen
Im sure some of the plastic interior parts if not in bad shape would bring money. Good shape hubcaps may bring a bit. If its a 5 lug 8'' rearen that will bring money Hood may bring a little bit of money, dependong on rust Grilles, disk brakes, boomerangs, engine stands, double hump crossmembers, driveshafts, headlight rings, and things of that nature alwasy bring a few dollars
Melanie, Im going to toss in another 2 cents. Back in 1985 I sold my maverick for $500, and I was sorry I did. It stopped running and I parked it for about 6 months, and was "talked into" getting rid of it. Because of finances, I was not able to buy another one up until last week. But there are a couple things you can do here: 1. Look to see if it is repairable, if so fix it, amy take some money, but it would be worth it. 2. Find another body where you can transfer over parts from your old one to get a good running car. All the best with your decision Glen
Guess someone forgot to tell three of my Mavericks that.. Look the car over for rust. That should be the deciding factor in if you crush it or not. If it's solid and you have money and means to put it back on the road, then do it. They sure aren't makeing anymore of them. Mavericks and Comets are being crushed by the dozens every year around here.
Big difference between sitting out in the Northwest and sitting out in GA or NC. My orange car sat out as well.....in Arkansas.
