Do the tabs on the rod bearings on a 302 install opposite sides of each other, or on the same side of the rod and cap? Thanks

I have never assembled a Ford engine, but every other engine I'v e done the tabs go together, and face the outside of the block.

You did keep the rod caps with the proper rods, right?

Tabs go together, rods go on with the numbered side facing out, if in doubt, the rod bearings are offset to one side of the rod and cap, the open side goes up against the chamfered side of the crank journal.

That is correct, in case the rod and cap are not numbered, just reassemble the cap and rod with the tabs on the same side and make sure the large chamfer matches up with each other. When assembled in the block, the tabs should face the camshaft on each side.

So it is opposite of Chevys then. On a Chevy the tabs go out always. Simple to figure out, just watch the chamfer.

Chamfered side must face the outside of the rod journal. Provides clearance for the fillet radius.

so if I understand correctly, the rod bearings tabs will be oriented on the same side of the rod rather than across to other side of rod.

correct, but on a Chevy that's tabs out, not in towards the cam.
