Yes, you can. The 351 will bolt right in place of the 302. Shaveing back the shock towers is something I would consider a must do with a 351. Try searching it, been discussed many times.

yup a 351w is a bolt in....however shock tower notch is almost a must unless you never want to change your spark plugs;)

Also notching the towers make it easy when bolting on headers.

Headers is whole another game, i have Hooker 6208s on my car, but they require a quite of bit work...
Also there is a company called Crites Restoration they have headers for W but only problem you have to pre-pay and it takes 3 months to make.

But they fit a whole lot better than the Hookers.

Far as a top loader i know you wont be able to run linkage, it will have to be cable or hydro.

    Good luck keep us posted

Do you know this for sure?
I was hoping you could run linkage.
Aw heck, a hydraulic clutch is nicer anyway.

Fwiw, I ran stock linkage on my 75 with a 351c...
However the exhaust runs low on those, so a W probably would have clearance issues.

i know for sure with the Hookers wont. The #7 tube runs right threw where the clutch linkage would be , plus all the tubes go all over the bay , there is no room beneath the heads.

Hi Murphy, I have done this swap twice, once with a top loader and once with a C4. If you use headers from Tubular Automotive available at Autokrafters you won't have to cut Spring Towers. You will have to massage a couple of the tubes slightly with a hammer. Clutch linkage will have to be modified slightly. I have a used set of these headers if you are interested. Changing plugs is a project, but once done isn't too bad.

Best to buy them direct from Tubular.
AK puts a big fat mark-up on the price.

However, those are only 1.5" primary tubes on those.
I might use them on a very mild 351, but if you increase the cubes any, they will clog up the works.
Personally, I wouldn't build a Windsor with less than 393 cubes seeing as the cost is nearly the same as 357 cubes.

The towers don't need to be cut for any header... But it will save your sanity when you work on the engine.

I am a new member and am currently building a 351 w to put in my 1970 mav. I am not sure what frame mounts to buy. Is there a frame mount for another car that I can buy? If so , what make and model.
I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

    351W swap

The rubber part of the motor mount from a 302 will work and I have gotten them from Autozone. The metal part that attaches to the chassis is a little harder to come by. Autokrafters has them, but they are probably not the cheapest. Other club members may have some they are willing to sell.
Good Luck, it makes a fun swap.
