alright so i dont know much about this but it seems to be pretty common, how much does it cost, how difficult is it, what are the benefits, etc.?
will this work? i know its specific to mustangs but is a mustang II kit the same thing all around? i know it requires some welding and stuff but will this kit work or is there a better one to use? i dont know much about the swap... http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/Suspension/heidts.htm
We used the Rod & Customs MII kit that was made for mavericks. Very happy with the kit and the way the car drives. The only worry I would have for a kit made for mustangs would be the frame rail width. The MII kits may have all the same parts but the cross member is made for each type of car. The instruction were great and every piece that is needed comes in the kit.
The Mustang one will not work its too wide. I have my Mustang II crossmember on order from Rod&Custom as well. After looking through all the different kits and crossmembers this was the best one IMO. Im hoping mine will be here this week. I'll take some pics of the install. My crossmember was $413.00 shipped. I still have to buy the a-arms, spindles, springs, calipers, rotors, and rack. It worked better for me this way cause I can buy the parts as I have the money. If thats not a problem buy the complete kit and be done with it. I'll have a grand tied up in it before its all over. But you would have over $500 tied up in completely rebuilding the stock front suspension, and if you dont have disc brakes and want to convert thats even more.
as far as benifits, one of the most important is you can get rid of the shock towers and fit a bigger engine in. with out the m2 setup a 351c/w is as big as you can go
most people go with m2 set up because it allows pretty much any engine you can think of to drop right in. it will probably make your car handle better, but with drop spindles and better springs and shocks you can probably have the same end result for less time, effort and money. unless I wanted a big block i wouldnt see it as worth it
We have just a little 302 in ours...............boy is there alot of room Bought it for a better handling steering car and a much cleaner engine compartment.
i guess you could always try to hunt down a used one. if someone went to the j-yard and cut the front end set-up off a actuall mustang II would it be possible to easily get it to work on a maverick/comet?
