Everytime I go to a show people Look my car over with a fine tooth comb. I always prop the hood so they can look at the engine. I try to talk to everyone about it (always the kids that are curious) but the ones that Kill me is the guys who looks @ the engine, crawls under it, wants to sit in it, wants me to start it and then ask what year is it (the plate reads 72 MAV)#?! Last yr. @ a show I had a dad and his 8 yr. old son come up and the dad said he had a 72 the same color when he was 16 yrs. old (it was his first car) I told him I had a Wht LDO @ 16 yrs. old. We had a great chat and then I told his son to hop in & turn the key for me, I let him hit the gas and he loved it! After the show was over the board gave me a special award for most freindly @ show. I'd have done it 100 times to see the look on those two's faces. I not sure who was happier Dad or Son!
well i dident like most of the the publicity my comet got like."hey nice pacer fastback" or the typical "nice camaro" ooo and when the grill and hood were off my car! wow did i here the word vega alot! DANG come to think of it they realy were retards! ha!
Try having a maverick and a hornet , every one in town thinks I have a camaro (yup a 4 door camaro with 50 lb bumpers ) and a nova . Its alright though I enjoy telling everyone what a maverick and an amc is . If I ever get tired of people asking me what kind of car I have I`ll just buy a mustang .
I get people asking about my car at gas stations and stuff... But not as many as you described... Maybe it's cuz my car is all beat up and the primer has tons of grease stains lol
Ive had people ride by the garage and they just love the camaro. Ive gotten mustang before also. Reminds me of my dad's story of a cop chasing him (60's)and hes way ahead, decides to stop cuz he figures the cop knows who he is.....well the cop finally walks up and says "dam son, what you got in this cuda?"....(dad)>"if Id known you thought my fairlane was a cuda, id be home right now?!"
Yup, same here. I have mine as a screen saver at work. A young kid walked by and said, "cool car". I asked him to tell me what it was and he went throught every make/model/year imaginable, needless to say he didn't guess the correct one.
I've got the opposet problem here. 9 out of 10 people that find out I'm restoring a Maverick think I'm a dorck They assume that because they have no imagination, that the rest of us have to be equally as dull. Lou
Funny Stories, I have a good one for you guys. My Wife runs a day car there's this little guy Troy about 8 years old, comes very early with his little sister, then he goes off to school.. anyway he comes over this morning has about 10 little hot wheels match box etc., and 2 Nascar diecasts, you know the bigger sized ones, Both Monte's.. wow you've got some neat cars, I say to him, then my wife chimes in.. Kevin ( me) Loves cars.. he could probably tell you what every one of those cars is.. so he strats asking me about each of his cars. Of course he's grinning from ear to ear. Then My wife, says "Kevin has an old car out in the garage that he's going to fix up some day". So I say Troy you wanna see it? ( I'm always interested in showing my car to people) so we walk to the kitchen door to the garage he takes one look at it and says Wow thats cool... Is that a race car?? I laughed told him no. then I told him its a 1974 Comet, so then he says i'm going to look inside it.. runs out the door stands on his toes and peeks into it, Wow I wish My dad had a car like this!! Well you can just about imagine how proud I felt at that point, Only 1 onther person has ever shown that kind of enthusiasm for my car, and that is my daughter, who turns 16 next month. anyway, all I can say is if you have that kind of interest in your car, you have something good , and it is something different, and Your car stands out in a crowd for what IT is not for what a Mustang , or A Camaro, or a 'Cuda is.. because one thing the Mav/ Comet Line did great is make an Economy car at least cool to look at and fun to drive!
Look at all these goofy remarks about what kind of car we have as an opportunity to educate. You can't fix stupid, but you can give 'em one less thing about which to be stupid.
when I was a kid in Calif. I heard there was a guy a few streets over that had a street rod so I knocked on his door. It turned out to be a 32 five window and he was happy to show me the car and talk to me. It turned out also that he and my stepfather were old friends and our meeting got them together again. I try to show kids the same intrest that was showed me, I think it is good for the hobby but it is better for the kids.
