Anyone here have one? If you changed it from a C4 (or 3 speed man), do you think it was worth it?

'Reason I ask is because I have a freshly built AOD (zero miles), a flexplate, and a 2800 stall converter sitting in the garage not allocated for nuttin'. I also have a TV cable and a B&M Hammer shifter to go with the swap.

I have a C4 behind my current 250cid (in the '74)- it runs fine for the short commutes I make. It whines pretty good when I get it up to 80ish on the freeway, but I don't drive it a lot on the freeways anyway.

I was thinking of swapping the C4 for the AOD but chose to abandon the idea because I figured the added weight would negate 'some' of the advantage of having a higher final ratio (more weight = less acceleration).

If I were to change over to the AOD, I would want to swap rear gears also to help the little 6 get out of it's tracks (again, because of the added weight) which would also off-set some of the advantage of the AOD's final drive ratio.

Anyway, I talked myself out of making the swap but was wondering, does anyone here have any experience going from the C4 to an AOD in a 250cid? Any comments? Regrets? Other?

Rick, I plan to put an AOD and around 3.70 gears in my '77 with a 250 I6. The final drive ration of an AOD is .62 (maybe .68 - I'll use .68 for calculations). A 3.73rear will be a 2.53 gear with the AOD in overdrive. With a 26 in. tall tire, 2600 RPM would have you at 80 MPH. Ain't bad. Our friend Frank has a 3.55 gears behind his AOD. With a 26 in. tall tire, he can run 80 MPH at 2500 RPM.

    I'd reconsider if'n I wuz you.

I have 25 in. tall tires with 3.00 rear gear an AOD at 70 mph 1700 rpm in high gear . The biggist problem I see is the horse power it take to run an AOD trans vers c 4 trans .

Congrats, my friend! How'd you like it? Lot's of umph! (I gotta see where you posted the info I suppose).

re: more horsepower to run AOD than C4
I assume he was referring that the AOD does rob more power than a C4 (from what I'm told anyway).

But, in your case, you don't need no more steenking horsepower! :thumbs2:

The only problem I can think of is you will need to find a 16? tooth zero ballance flexplate .

Rick, if you give up on the AOD, I "might" be interested in purchasing it...if you decide to sell...

My C4 needs to be completely rebuilt. May as well drop the AOD in there instead, and lose all of those pesky leaks:)

Nope you have a 28 oz (or 50 oz) ballance flex plate and the 250 takes a "0" ballance flexplate. The aftermarket makes the flexplate needed to to the swap so its no big deal .
