the blue canistor that sits on passenger firewall that connects...to gas tank line ....is that to relieve pressure? i got rid of canister , droppeed tank and plugged up the the top fitting....on top tank, i have a ton of pressure now...did i create a bomb? or use vented gas cap?

That line is the vent line. Dont just plug the hole... I would just run a little line somewhere where it will be shielded and put some sort of filter at the end to keep crud out.

The cap is not vented so by eliminating the vent you can pop a tank when the warm or hot temps make the gas expand.

The blue canister is a carbon filter that routed the gas fumes to the carburetor to be burned.
