I seem to remember someone cleaning EFI injectors on the bench. I realize you can apply a twelve volt supply to the injector but don't you need pressure to get it to "spray" and clean out? Thanks

if you open the injector by power,, you should be able to blow thru them with air. I made a homemade pump that sits in a coffee can full of paint thinner and hook the injectors up off the pump with a rubber hose and a clamp. I have a power inverter,,, 13.8V that I turn on, it turns on the pump and the injectors at the same time and I can watch the spray as it comes out the injector tip. All it takes to make a pump is any intank pump,,, a section of rubber hose a few hose clamps a can of somesort to hold the cleaner. I wish they can be taken apart and be able to change the discharge tips to larger ones,,,,,,,, Chad

    Dear Mr. MacGyver,

I've been contemplating doing what you're talking about for a while now.

Any pictures of your setup or a small 'parts list' by chance?

    Thanks,

    N. Awe

    Thanks Chad

I'll try it using a carb electric pump and see if it works!!

Rick, I bench bled the injectors today but I don't think you want to see a pic. I used an old carb electric fuel pump and connected with 3/8s line. I pumped fuel from a can into the pump and out to the top of the injector. I used a clamp to secure the hoses and all went well. I then applied current to the pump until pressurized and then I applied current to the injector and I was able to get a good clean stream of fuel through the injector. I had a friend help. I actuated the injector while he ran the pump off of my ford ranger battery. Quite comical!! Beware, I caused a spark once without incident but it was kind of close to the fuel source!!! Be careful. At any rate I cleaned all eight with good results.

Seems easier to just hook up to the fuel schrader... what's important is being clean on the inside, isn't it? I used to do FI services at where I used to work and I can't tell you how many times the procedure would fix a missfire symptom. I guess there would be times when one would attempt bench cleaning...but 8?:tiphat:

I bought the injectors used and wanted to clean them before installation! It really didn't take that long.

No schrader valve on my application. I'm wanting to "test" the injectors, not so much "clean" them, but the end result is the same.

EFIMAV, how did you seal around the injector o-rings (or was it even necessary to do so with your setup - I can't envision it clearly)?

I took the o-ring off of the top and slid the 3/8s line over the opening. I then clamped it in place with a small hose clamp. I worked great. Remember, I was only applying 6-8 psi not 40! Also, bleed off the pressure by leaving the injector open and turning the pump off for a few seconds. Makes for less mess!
