I am having trouble making the rod from a from floor shift maverick fit into my 70. I know the trans tunnel seems smaller being that i have the shifter hump for the inside and it is barely even close to fitting. Anyway, does anybody know anything about the shift cables? are they a good idea or is it better to make the rod work. if its better to make the rod work, how would i go about doing it?

    Shift Cables

Have used B&M shift cables for years and with great results. They come in a variety of lengths and different ends for attachment to trans and shifter. A lever is also needed for the trans attachment but is inexpensive and is a simple way to fix your problem. Depending on your shifter attachment lever, may have to do some fabricating or get the correct cable end(eyelet or barrel style). Easier to adjust than bending rod and such, just route the cable away from hot exhaust etc. JMO on the subject.

Are you adapting a column shifted Mav to floor shift? If you are, one thing to keep in mind is that the shift lever on the tranny is "upside down" (flipped 180 degrees) when you compare one to the other. IIRC, the rod will not even fit if you try to connect it to the column lever.
Of course, you probably already have this taken care of, but I thought I'd mention it in case ya didn't realize it yet....:D

Thanks for the replies. We have decided to get a b&m shifter to ease installation. mark, i have flipped it. for some reason, when i try to move it by hand, it doesn't want to go into all the gears. anyway, thanks again.
