and i hear like a buzzing coming from the engine compartment, but it's not like a buz, more of a really fast tick. i replaced the valve cover gasket the day b4, is it possible to tighten it down to much?(no torque wrench, but i didn't crank on them) and also, the air tube that goes from the carb(for the automatic choke) broke off(rusted through). my friend said that might be it...i haven't looked into it yet...any ideas
Which gasket? I think Don was refering to the exhaust manifold gasket, between the manifold and the head, or the "doughnut" gasket between the manifold and pipe.
i never touched those, i replaced the valve cover gasket....and i didn't touch anything inside...well i wiped the top of the rockers to see if the oil on top was kindy crappy...turned out to be nice, so i put it back on and tightened all the bolts back down. is it possible to tighten them to much(so much that something inside would be hitting the cover). also if i touch the pcv vlave and hose i can feel the ticking in the hose, but not the valve cover
I could be way off base here but that sounds like it might be serious. It sounds like the ball inside the pcv valve is what is making the noise. Normally the vacume in the crankcase is pretty steady and the ball in the valve just lifts of the seat and stays there. If its clicking it could mean you have a stuck piston ring and this is causing a wide variance in crankcase pressure and it's making the ball click inside. Hope it is not that serious.
no i dont think it's the pcv valve thats doing it, because i pulled the valve out of the cover, and it was still doing it, i dont think the vibrations were coming from the pcv valve itself, but i could be wrong, i'll pull the whole valve off tomorrow and see what that does, if it's not that i'm gonna tighten my exhaust manifold just to make sure
While your in the cover you might want to check that when you wiped the rockers you didnt plug the tiny holes with any crud...just a thought, good luck.
