My car is a 74 with all the government mandated crash additions. I am making it into a s/s car and am wondering about removing the inner door beams to save a little weight, Anyone done this and is this safe? I will have an 8 point cage with the door beam probably removeable for ease of entry. I know this is not much weight but every little bit helps.
Just useless dead weight. My '73 had them, I replaced the doors with the ones from my 69.5, and it's a street car with no cage... And they do weight quite a bit. My '69.5 doors were very noticeable lighter to pick up then the '73 doors were.
what is s/s? if this is a stock class, such as nhra stock. i would check their rule book. if it's legal you need to lose every pound you can. some of these guys are anal about weight. they are now using titanium stud bolts to save even a couple of ounces. remember every few ounces eventually adds up to pounds.
s/s= street/strip. guess i should just spell it out the first time. I will see how easy it will be to actually get inside there with the cut off tool or body saw. I know they are attached on the ends it looks like they are spot welded right into the seam. I won't take the seam apart to get them out, just cut them as close to the ends as possible. I might have to cut them into pieces to get them out. Hey, this is sounding like a lot of work . I guess I'll find out soon enough.
