car just showed up. It has 8200 original miles and is very clean. However, when I put it up on the rack there was a small moist area under the tank, and when I rubbed the gas started leaking. I'd like to replace the tank and sender, but google and searches here did not show anything available. Who do you guys have for restoration parts? And is there anyone who sells a repro or new tank? Beautiful car! Unfortunatly the gas tank for this year Mav is not reproduced. Your best bet is to find another one from a junkyard or someone selling one, or have that one restored. The 69.5/70 Mav tanks are year specific, so no other years will be a direct replacement. 69.5/70 tanks such as yours are drop in, all others are held up under the trunk pan with straps. My suggestion would to have this one restored as it looks to be in great shape other than the hole you speak of, and it it hard to find a 70 Mav gas tank in good shape, especially because the drop in tank was a one year deal. yes it is. Have you got any more info on it? It is not quite as represented by the salesman, but is a very nice car overall. I guess I'll start looking for a tank or someone to repair this one. Thanks guys for the info. Jody
I hate to tell you this but you have what is known as a 69 1/2 Maverick. They are the only ones with a drop in tank. In mid 70 Ford used a full trunk pan and installed the tank from the bottom and was held in with two straps. The tank for a 69 1/2 is not reproduced. I needed one for mine also. Some people have used 65 Mustang tanks but with a low mileage car like yours you do not want to do this as you have to modify the trunk. I believe the sender is available though. There are many other differences in a 69 1/2 vs 70 so always keep that in mind when looking for parts. There are alot of good people on this forum that will help you out. It was sold as such. There are many areas that back that up, places that are like new that wouldn't be if it was 108K. But being in California I'm surprised at what just a few miles with salt does to unpainted items under the car. Floors are perfect and almost no dirt at all, but items that had no paint look like 100K+ miles. From what I've heard that's the way it is back there with the snow and salt. Jody
Nice car! I believe that was advertised in Hemmings. Your car is referred to as a 69 1/2 but is actually titled as a 70. Production of the Maverick started in April of 1969 exactly 5 years after the Mustang. All of the 70's had a drop in tank. The tank mounted under the floor came in the 71 model year. You will likely need to have you tank redone. NOS ones are few and far between. I think I have seen 3 on e-bay over the last 4 years. One of which I was able to purchase. You will note some of the differences in the early cars such as yours is the Steering Wheel, Key below dash rather than in the column, and possibly 13 inch tires.
JODY I'am not sure were Wilton Ca. is but Mattinson radiator in Stanton ca. can do the repair for you they had a booth at one of the shows here an are doing tank repairs . The cost is between 189.00 to 225.00 depanding an the amount of welding an fad work . I hope this helps. jay
