Craig your car is awesome!(y) I almost bought that car when it was on Ebay. If you ever consider selling it please let me know. Also if you decide to change wheels I would like to buy those slots.
    Thanks,

I bought the Firestone Indy 500's last year and I love them. (y) I think they look much racier than the Goodrich T/A Radials. Besides every 70's muscle car has Goodrich tires on them. The Indy 500's are more distinctive.

I bought the 205's when they were being discontinued, but the I've been told the 215's will fit. Go ahead and get them, you won't be sorry. But you will probably have to have the wheels realigned. I did.

Here's the link to Tire Rack. The Firestone's have a much higher approval rating on Tire Rack than the Goodrich. The Yokohama AVID S/Ts have a slightly higher rating, cost less, and come in the 205 size, but they won't look as authenic or racy as the Firestones. :yup:

Thanks everyone for your help. Although I like the Firestones better, I ended up purchasing the BF Goodrich Radial T/As. I brought the car to Sears and they removed a wheel. We compared them (my old DR/70/14) to 195/70/14, 205/70/14, and 215/70/14. The 195's were too small (short), the 215's were too big (tall). The 205 was almost a perfect match. Firestone Indys don't come in 205.....so the Radial T/A it was. They're still a nice tire too and Sears had them on sale....$64.97. Again, I want to thank everyone for all their help, and if I can do anything to help anyone, just ask. I'll try to get some pics of the interior of my Mav up in a day or two. Craig

Hi All....got my tires and spent 8+ hours using Mothers Mag Polish and a Mothers Power Ball to shine up the stock wheels. Big job but not as bad as I expected. I've taken some pics of the interior and exterior. Where would be a good place to post them?

what i put on my wifes mave was a set of steelies off a 67 stang 14X6 and the tires are 205-70-14 in front and 245-60-14 in the rear. the rear are 25.5 diamiter and about 9 wide and thay are perfect for the look. the question i have is what did the mavs and comets come with from the factory?

    E70-15 and E7814?

My build sheet says "BDR78X14" for the 73 Mav.
The B is listed as "code" followed with no spaces by the "DR78X14"
Probably "Blackwall" ; "D" tread width ; "R" is for radial ; "78" tread to height ratio ; "X14" is, of course wheel diameter
Under wheels it lists covers "C" ; wheel code "DV"

    Does that confuse you enough?

My 75 Mav came with DR-70-14 from the factory. The 205-70-14 are very close in size to them.

    dr 70-14 is a 70x14 tire... as in 195 70 14... 205 70 14

the 185-195-205 is the tire width in Millimeters. and the 70 is the aspect ratio of that tire, 70% of width etc..

the best fit of the tires depends on your rim width... if you have a 14X6, which i believe was stock, then you will want a 1857014 or a 1957014

if the rims are a 14x7 then a 2057014 or 2157014 will be fine

and the difference between a 1857014 and a 2057014 is not enough to worry about effecting your speedometer
