I purchased a couple of used sport mirrors, but upon receiving them, discovered the glass is scratched really bad on both of them. I have seen some generic repair kits in Wal-Mart that have some kind of "mirror film" that you can cut to the correct shape, then it has some adhesive on the back to hold in in place. Has anyone used this stuff, is it any good, or is it junk? Option two, do I just go to a glass shop and see if they can cut the glass mirror in the right shape and silicone it into place as a replacement? Or, does anyone sell the correct replacement glass? On another note, I discovered the sport mirror for the "passenger side" (which does not have a remote cable) must not stay in place, as there is a bunch of silicone caked on the stem where the ball mount connects to the body. How can I correctly fix this? Thanks for any help or suggestions.... Art
I would take the mirrors to a glass shop. ALL driver's side sport mirrors have (or had) an adjustment cable. I would say it won't stay in place unless it does have a cable. Of course...you could just silicone it in place again....but I don't hink it will work and it won't look very good.
Sorry, I mistyped the info about the mirror that won't stay in place and has silicone on it. It is the "passenger" side (which I corrected), and not the drivers side. Sorry for the confusion. Art
I think you can find any Passenger side sport mirror and just take out the glass mirror and replace yours. It is held in with two screws.
Dorman would be new glass, just like the original. Not too bad on price either. Thanks for the tip! Art
