Hi everyone, i am new to this great website and i just purchased my first maverick, its a 1977 4 door with 42k original miles. I absolutly love this car. I am looking for a parts catalog that a business might put out just for the 77' maverick, i used to have one for an old torino and it was really helpful with restoring it. I cant remember the company who put it out put it was a catalog woth only 71' torino parts in it. If anyone knows of how to get one of these for my maverick, i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, i appreciate it. By the way, Auto Krafters dont have a fuel sending unit for my 77'. I have heard that they are hard to find, do you have any knowledge/expirence with fuel sending unit in the 77 and where i might be able to find one.

I expect Auto Krafters to be coming out with a fuel sender for the 1977 tanks. I don't know how soon. I suggest you call them and tell them you want one. Maybe that will "spur" them to get a movin' on it. :D

Thanks i appreciate it, but i think that my problem was the computer chip thing behind the instrument panel, you know behind the spedometer, but well see im getting one from a junkyard tomorrow. By the way, this car only has 42k original miles on it. If the new instrument panel works, is there any way to set the new odometer to the ilage my car has on it? Thanks

I have a 1977 Comet and the gas guage doesn't work in it either. The problem is not the sender....it is the instrument cluster. It has turned to dust and the speedometer has started to fall down below the dash. I would bet this is your problem as well. When the plastic deteriorates...then the "contacts" for everything (lights, turn signal indicators, fuel guage, etc) don't "contact" and those items don't work.

If it was the instrument voltage regulator (as you describe)then it would read full all the time.

Thanks craig, eveything on mine is as you describe it, the spedometer was falling down and everything was turning to dust and the contact were messed up. BUT the fuel guage always reads empty, plus i do believe that one of the turn signal lights were working, but im not sure.

A fuel sender will be easier to find than the instrument cluster in my opinion. The instrument cluster you need is VERY hard to find.

Really, man i couldnt find a sender unit anywhere for the 77 and alot of people on here said that they are hard to find, but one of my local junkyards said that they had a 77', either maverick or comet, they werent sure, and the cluster was good in it. Hopfully thatone works, do you know if a comet cluster will work, and on that same note what all clusters will work, year wise??

    Yes....A comet Cluster will work.

I am not sure....but I think it is 1975 and up on the cluster that will work. All the ones I find in junkyards of those years are always "dust".

At least the fuel sender can be sent out and rebuilt as a last resort. No such luck with the cluster.

    Instrument Cluster Swap

Chip my son has a 77 that had the same problem as yours with the Instrument Cluster crumbling. He also liked the 120 mph clusters. We solved both issues at once & it works perfectly. If you will follow the link below & read the entire Thread you will know all there is to know about this swap. When you follow this link on post # 25 there will be another link you need to follow to get the final results. Good luck.(y)
