I'm going to use a car hauler, so I'll be taking the drive shaft off the Maverick. I called around to try and find a universal transmission tailshaft plug, but no luck. I did call a transmission shop and he said that he has some extra plugs leftover (must be shipping plugs?) but needed to know the right dimension of the hole. Does anyone know the answer to that? Thanks! Art
If only you'd asked last night I could have gotten my caliper and checked mine. If you don't have an answer by tonight, PM me a reminder to check it.
I have used an old driveshaft slip yoke. Just put it in and use a bungy to keep it from sliding back out while going down the road. This is what I use when pulling engine/tranny so the fluid doesn't pour out while lifting the engine out.
last time I put one on a toedolly I just unhooked the drive shaft (after putting the car on the dolly) and used a meatle coat hanger to tie the drive shaft up and out of the way.
So that's why I see driveshafts laying along the road sometimes ..... always wondered how the car kept going without it .....
The National Parts Depot catalog says: " 1.44" OD, 67-73 C-4, 4sMT small input, and 1.7" OD 65-66 C-4, C-6, FMX, 4sMT big input" Theres a NPD just outside Detroit, and they have 1-day shipping in Michigan.
I used a couple of plastic ziplocks zip tied over the tail shaft area once. Worked pretty well. But then I wasn't going very far either. Jerryfow2
