Been having trouble getting the Sprint to start when the engine is cold. If I pump the gas pedal a couple times, as one normally would before turning the key, the engine will turn over but not fire. However if I prime it by pouring a little gas in the carb it will start and (usually after a few tries) continue to pull gas from the tank. Then once it's warm I can shut it off and it'll restart on it's own. I've checked the accelerator pump squirters and they are providing fuel to the carb. Any ideas?

Uh yeah, Frank...not so much, cold as in, like, the weather, but just when the engine itself is cold. Capisce? Thanks for the tip...anybody else want to take a stab at it?

Like eddie said, a choke problem maybee?? Try pumping the heck out of it and see if it will fire, because all your doing is over fueling by dumping gas down the carb.see if that will work.

if the "squirters" work...the choke is not on. :yup:
go under the hood and pump the carb. a few times, then set the choke butterfly.
get in the car and touch nothing but the key and try to crank it. if it starts and runs it is the choke...

I was so determined to follow Frank's first suggestion that I didn't even notice eddie's reply

The choke may very well be the problem. I'll try playing with it tomorrow if I have a chance, just got home from work and it's snowing to beat heck so it'll have to wait for now. Thanks.

this may sound lame, or redundant.. has the car sat for a long period of time? sounds like the fuel supply is ok. have you smelled the oil? if fuel gets in the lower end( and it does happen) motors hate to fight themselves to run. sounds like the acc.l pump is working, but you have to overfuel it? to fire it. i would also take the 5 seconds to check your ( points) if your running non e. ignition, as they hate a bit of moisture. whatever the case im sure someone here will help ya along. good luck
