I'm new to this site and look forward to all the knowledge that's available here. Owned a 72 Comet Gt when I was 16 and have never forgotten the car. I want to build another one, sort of a resto mod version. I had know idea there were sites like this for the Maverick/Comet lovers, it's great. I have a fair amount of experience with Chevy's, street cars from mild to wild but little experience with Fords so this will be a great experience and I will enjoy everything I learn outside of the "Chevy box" I'm familiar with.....LOL Is there a "Year One" restoration type catalog for Mavericks and Comets like for other popular cars and trucks? It would be really nice to have access to something like this for rebuilds.
Welcome to the forum. The "Year One" for Mavericks/Comets would a place called Auto Krafters. There are also some parts that are interchangable from other old Fords. Good luck...
THX everyone Auto krafters...bingo. Looks like the spot for me, I live in rural Alaska so parts cars aren't exactly an option or even used restoreable parts. I'll have to find the right project car on the West coast, then I can start. Looking for a solid car, between 2500.00 and 4000.00, Would like a 4 speed car factory or not, doesn't really matter as long as it was tastefully done. I would go with an automatic if it was done right with the floor shifter, after market or stock. The Sprint that was advertised in the other forum was a nice looking starter car, a bit more money but in good shape and a solid foundation that wouldn't need frame off restoration to be a dependable DD car with some attitude.
FYI: There were no factory 4 speed Mavericks or Comets. These are also uni-body cars, and have no removeable frame. Sometimes I wish they did though.
welcome to the board. autokrafters has the best selection for maverick/comet parts but don't expect it to have all the body panels and stuff like year one does. also go to ebay motors and type in maverick or comet. lots of stuff on there, but be warned the prices are getting high for the good parts. how long have you lived in alaska? i've been to anchorage and my wife was born on kodiak island.
Hi everyone. I have been out of the "car loop" for years, am now working on a 72 Mav. I have been at it for 3 years, hoping to be cruising this summer. Power is 351w with performance goodies and lots more. i hope to hear from others. Mercman
