about what would a 2000 rpm stall cost? i priced one from $145 -$215. i don't know if i want or need one, just asking...frank...
Frank be careful on what you buy when it comes to stall's you want one that is furnace brazed and has bearings other than bushings........I am pretty sure I can get you a good deal on one from work just email me your engine year\ ballance, and tooth count on the flex plate. and I'll check tomorrow at work......
Do I even need one??? I am looking for a stall converter also....mild 302, headers, 3.00 gears...do I even need one??? Thanks, JP
well the cam you are running did it recomend one?? and to be real honest most would not be able to tell it has a 2000 stall.......but get bigger than that and you would need lower gears... like at least 3:50's or more........other wise it would cause a lot of heat in the tranny and early trans failure......
This is a tricky subject. I ran/raced my Maverick for years before discovering what a stall could do for performance. Running a healthy cam over .5oo lift without a stall and now with a stall, what a difference! I have not put in the new gears yet (4.11) but with the 3.00's it'll light em up at will. I chose a 3000 stall to go with the new 28" high tires and gears. Have fun.. Scott
if running a stock engine, I would pass on a 2000 stall converter. A factory one usually stalls around 1800, and they can be had for around $50 at parts stores. I ran a 3000 in a basically stock 302 for a while, and it sure is nice to have the torque when you need it. Also ran the same converter with a turbo 302 making 10-12 psi boost, and it was a little much for a street car, but manageable (by creative use of the right foot). I havent decided what to do with it now, but leaning toward a smooth-idle roller lightweight internal 302 with the same 3000 TCI converter. Still haven't made up my mind yet, though would like to go to a 5-speed. Can't find a T5 for under $500 even without the clutch, bellhousing, fork, etc. Heck, I can build 6 C4's for $500.
Mavman email me one of the guy's at work has a t5 for sale........bell flywheel clutch shifter and all
