I just purchased a 74 Grabber V-8 (minus drivetrain) and was wondering if anybody out there was running fuel injection. I am thinking of using a 5.0 H.O. or cobra engine and was looking for comments or advice.

5.0 will drop right in if the car was set up for a v8. hard part is the electrical and making a modern engine work in a 30+ year old car.

I am running "stock" Ford EFI taken from an '86 Grand Marquis and then updated to Mass Airflow with '93 Mustang parts, with an aftermarket intake manifold:[IMG]

I put the fuel injection stuff right on top of my original '77 302. I run an external high pressure fuel pump mounted to the rear frame rail. I am using a '93 Mustang EEC (computer) with a device called a Tweecer which allows me to update the calibration and shut off the missing emissions devices so I don't get a check engine light.
All-in-all, I really like my fuel injection. It was not the easiest thing in the world to get it running right, and I still tinker with it...then again, I like to tinker. :)

Mark, I notice you don't have any tower braces.
I see why, however, just a heads up... The towers need bracing of some sort.
My towers went without the braces for a while, before I knew better, and each tower sagged in 1", 2"s total engine bay width lost.
Not to mention the instability and havoc on the alignment.

I figure you might already know all this.
Gotta say something though incase you didn't.
    Dave

    Nice install by the way!
    Purty!

Yeah, I would like to put in tower braces...but there just doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it with the setup I have. Any ideas?

Also, I have long wondered if I may already have any tower sagging going on. Do you happen to know what the distance between the towers should be?

    It's not really that bad...
I just changed the engine on my EFI F150.
First EFI R&R for me, and I was worried about all the wires.
I found out during the process that the entire harness is much simpler than it appears. Everything has an obvious function, everything comes from the computer for the most part (what doesn't, comes from the battery), and every plug is unique so that you cannot plug it in the wrong place.
After I was done, I felt much more confident with it and even thought it was really easy.
I know it wasn't a swap into an older car, but the way it is set up, you have a computer powered by the battery and a fuel system with a return line.
Everything else is fairly self contained.

    Mark:
I have seen a pic on the site here of a member's car that had EFI with braces.
They made the braces from... darn it, the name of the links are on my fingertips, but I can't remember! There is a rod on each end. One with right threads, other with left threads... then the middle turns to adjust them.
I hate when I can't remember simple terms. :slap:
They are on the forum though. If I run across the pics, I will post them.

    Makes me want EFI...

    I am wishy washy.
My tastes change every day. ;)
I need about a dozen cars so I can build all the variations I like.
Gotta rob that bank first I guess...
