I have a driveshaft off my '77 302 car, and the one on my '71 that was behind the 200i6. The car now has a 5.0 roller motor in it with a c4. I keep breaking u-joints, so to make a long story short, I was going to try my '77 shaft. The weird thing is, the '77 shaft has a large ring on the trans. end, like a dampener, with a rubber ring just like a crank dampener. Should I have any concerns with using this?
Are you tightening the joints to spec? Or are you just wrenching them tight? Edit: The reason I ask is that when I was a kid, my first car broke a joint from age and abuse. I just tightened the bolts on the new joint nice and tight. The joint lasted about a month. I was frustrated and thought if I tightened it a little tighter it would last longer. That joint lasted a week. Then I tightened the pi$$ out of the next one. I was hot... It lasted almost a day. Turns out, the bolts take very little torque... Who knew??? Too tight and the bearing cup deforms and burns the rollers up. Dave
My Maverick drag car used the original I6 driveshaft with just some heavy duty u-joints and I never broke one in all the years I raced that car.
