I was hoping that someone would be nice enough to list out the parts needed for a T5 hydrolic clutch setup. Where to get the parts and which year Mustang hydrolic kit and tranny is best to use, and why. What flexplate is needed with a 79 302? Also, if possible, please go into some details about installation and do's and don'ts. Trying to pool the parts together. Has anyone tried an aftermarket 66 or 67 Mustang crossmember? Thanks
There are a number of aftermarket Hydraulic Clutch setups for T5 transmissions. I like the kit from JMC. It looks good and fits well. Easy to install. None of the Mustang crossmembers will work with our cars. They are too wide, side to side. I don't have the information about the flexplate off the top of my head. Most of the parts are readily available from the Mustang aftermarket. I know you can get everything except the crossmember from www.autoworksracing.com. And most every other Mustang shop in the country.
Hey, thanks for the information. Can you suggest exactly what parts are needed for the conversion from 3 spd to T5 or Tremec? Which year clutch kit (65 or 67)? I think the site could use a definitive parts list for this conversion. It would be nice if someone would draw one up for the rest of us. What are the main differences in the different T5s and the Tremec trannys?
Im finishing up the crossmember I adapted for my T5 swap today. I will post some pics later. But if you have a trans crossmember for a V8 auto its pretty easy. #1 I swapped a trans mount from a C4 auto (out of a 78 Granada) to the T5. Its way shorter and with it on you can almost bolt the crossmember on. All I had to do was weld some plates about 2in long and wide and redrill the holes about 3/4in up from the stock holes. For a flywheel for a 81 and earlier engine you need the 157tooth 28oz imbalance flywheel which is the early model flywheel. Or you can use one off a 5.0 engine and have it rebalanced to a 28oz that way you can use the late model Mustang pressure plate and clutch, which is what IM going to do with mine.
Here's a pic of the crossmember modified to use with the T5 in my car. Its not the prettiest thing because my brother in law has the MIG welder and Im not that great with the old arc welder but you get the idea. It was easy compared to making a new one. I'm also working on adapting clutch master and slave cylinder off a late model Camaro to my T5. I'll let you guys know if it will work.
Check this old thread I started awhile back. It has an absolutely awsome pdf file that has a complete build including the blueprints for the brackets needed. http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=12317&highlight=hydraulic+clutch
How is the clearance in the transmission tunnel? Does the T5 fit without hitting anything? I am thinking about going with a TKO500 instead of the T5, but it all comes down to what fits with minimal tunnel modifications. I need to go back down to Summit and measure the TKO600 they have on display there and compare that with the C4. Earl and I were looking at it last Saturday and it really looked like it would fit great.
It is very close to the top of the tunnel, there MIGHT be a 1/2" mainly that is because of the front floor brace that run all the way across. Other than that everything else fitment wise is fine. plenty of room on the sides. If you have a floor shift auto the hole only needs to be trimmed a little for the manual shifter. But its in the same exact place the hole just has to be opened up a bit. Im putting the clutch pedal setup in tomorrow and mocking the master/slave cylinder up too see if I can get that to work.
I have cut the trans tunnel brace also for clearence. This lets me level the engine with no issues. So far I have done four mavericks this way, you probably can get away without cutting it but, these cars I'm working on are lower than normal and the trans tail shaft will set lower than the rear end. BTW Mavman34 P.M. me and ask for clutch mastercylinder pics I couldn't figure out how to send them back P.M. that is why this thread came back to life. If you can fabricate brakets and stuff Pit stop usa sells all the parts that JMC uses in their kits minus the brakets of course. The other differance is the mastercylinder mounting flange is not welded on at an angle so to connect to the pedal you have to make an angled clevis.
