Hey fellas,,,, I need some help to locate a device that measures the volume of a cyl to deterime if the engine has a stock bore and stroke without pulling the heads off to measure manually. I seen a photo in the last issue of HOT ROD where they were talking about factory stock drags,, they had a picture of the tester that screws into the spark plug hole,,,,, Do anyone of you drag racers know where to find one of these testers, and how they work???? Whats going on is,,, I am into tractor pulling,, which has a stock engine class,, ans some of the guys are running stroker engines where they aint supposed to,,,, no way to go off the honor system, and we cant tear em down at the track,,, so, any information is greatly greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance, sorry for putting this here and not talkin bout the ol maverick! ChadS from Indiana

Circle track racers use them all the time, they have to pass displacement tests before and after a race. Forget the name of them but I've heard they're pretty expensive.

How do you take into account the volume of the head?

This one measures how much air is swept out of the cylinder when the piston moves from BDC to TDC. That's what displacement is, swept volume. I've seen another type of tester. With the piston at BDC they fill the hole cylinder up with some kind of goop, don't know what it is exactly. Then they move the piston to TDC and measure how much of the goop comes back out.
