I know people on Ford Six have problems with them clearing in early Mustangs. Don't recall anyone doing it in a Maverick though.
I'm on the Ford 6 site as well and the 250 is not a real popular power plant. It's taller the a 144-200 series engine. With a single carb I no it will clear. In a Falcon there is room. Ak Miller did a 3x1 on a 200 in a 70 Maverick, but the 250 is a different beast. May swap the ported head from my Falcon/Ranchero with a holley/weber to the Maverick and put the 3x1 on it. Just thought the 3 carbs would look kewl.
What about the Holley 2bbl adapter on the 250. Doesn't it fit the 250? It will give you the same performance with less hassle tuning it. Have you ever tried to keep three carbs in tune? Even when you have the right tools (I do) it is a weekly affair. A single two barrel carb makes more sense and you can get as much cfm with a two barrel as you can with three of those one barrel carbs.
I'm with Paul on this one. I had 3 dueces on a 327 once - ONCE! When they were "ON", they were ON, but most of the time, they were "OFF". A small 4BBL worked very well in there place (I can't remember which brand).
I have a holley/webber on my '63 Ranchero (200, Isky Cam, lots of head work) and do like it, but the flow problems of the log intake still exist. My goal is a 16 second 1/4 mile 6 banger. I have had 2 and 3 carb systems on various cars over the years. As a daily driver I would most likely go with a single carb, but for a weekend car like my Mav is, 3 carbs aint so bad. I grew up on a bunch of brit cars with 2 and 3 SU side drafts. I have also had multi carb six bangers (Ford & Mopar) and not had a problem. My concern is just hood clearance and other issues that may be unique to the Mavericks. I do have a holley 500CFM carb adapter and that is a choice, but the 3 carb set up is staring at me whenever I walk in the garage......
Yep Terry, I could just use a standard hood and it may come to pass. Right now, I'm just fact fiding and collecting parts. Thanks to guys on this board I have the head, carbs, intakes (3x1 and holley intake). There is also a bell housing, 4 spd trans, pedal assy and other parts to convert over to a manual trans and hipo 6 at a reasonable price. My stocker may becom a rocker inliner style. I promise that we will debate this when I return to Atlanta next year.
The "Mavi GT" had an add on to the hood for the 3 Aces under there ....... I'd like to clone this thing someday ....
I always wondered....when they took that picture of the Maverick Mavi GT.....why park it behind a fire hydrant for??? Couldn't they move it up a few feet and get a NICE picture???
