I don't think the Heddmans will work with column shift. They were a challenge to get in with the heads off. However, they don't touch anywhere and didn't require any hammer work anywhere. They also have a 3/8" flange at the head and dome-type collectors. No leaks now and with Percy's header gaskets and Stage 8 bolts, I am sure there wont be any in the future . . . I hope not :)

Stan told me the 1 3/4 standard flange is a problem with spacing of the header bolts, this is why they make the step type.

Adding to this I wonder if the hedman 1 3/4 flange with stubs is a good starting point? Has anyone tried useing these on any application? Part #11300

I have made 1 3/4" work without using flange adapters before. The folks a Stahl sell those adapters and they are for 1 7/8" up, the price was around 200 bux a pair though:eek: . Its not a problem for me:cool: .

Only problem is that most of the primaries coming out the the head will have to be right on a bend. Straight stubs may not work because they are too long.

I've been looking for 1 3/4" headers for 2 years now and haven't found any that fit for sure or that aren't custom made for $1200. I'll definitely buy a set if you make some that fit. Lot's of others have been looking too.

Can you make the flange fit aftermarket heads with the wider bolt spacing (like AFR 205's)?

Let me know when you are making some, I'd like to come up and check it out.

Should not be a problem on the flange.

I will, if and when I decide to do this. If you would just like to come down and tour the plant, you are welcome anytime, just call (y)

    Maybe this will help.

This was discussed a few months ago on this site:

    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=27191&highlight=headers

I bought the crites restoration headers and posted pictures showing they fit on a 351w. The only modification is to get an oil filter adapter and put it on somewhere on the firewall. Please look at pictures of headers 28,29,31,34,35,36,37 and 38. Of course you can look at all of them if you like. The headers are 1/three quarters, cheap, come in indivudual pipes and fit.

This was just an idea I was toying with. If I had a substantial amount of intrest I would still be willing to give it a go. Somebody brought up the crites restoration headers in the thread James-comet mentions. Starts off by saying they supply templates to cut the center ribs off the shock towers, but then says that no mods are required to install "these headers":D. IIRC, the crites units are around 400 bux or so, I don't think I could compete with that, No doubt I would give special attention to detail and make a set that would fit right.

I could do it, like I said. The problem was, and still is, the amount of intrest. It would be cost prohibitive for me to invest a large sum of money for a prototype and fixtures to reproduce more and only sell a couple.
