Taken from another thread... I have been thinking about doing this for a very,very long time. I would do a 1 3/4" primary tube, 4 into 1 that slip together (a very reliable method that has been proven to make install ALOT easier and does not leak). I have been working on getting tools and equipment for about two months now to do this in my garage and now have all the basics to get me started...a bandsaw, mig welder for tacking, a tig welder for finish welding, chop saw and sanders etc.. I have not worked all the details out yet like... A vehicle to do it on. Sean (luckyirishpride) or jayman may let me borrow their "spare" vehicles. I have yet to ask them. My motor wont be done for another two months or so . Start up money...This will and already has been a very large investment on my part. I dont have a prototype built yet, but when I do, I will build fixtures as I would be willing to make these by hand as orders roll in. My company has not expressed intrest in this project (I have asked). The owner told me to do it on my own, So I 'm seriously thinking about doing this. Nothing is set in stone as of yet. This project is still in the planning stage as far as design is concerned. At this point I feel that this will be a large comitment on my part but I also feel that it is very do-able. Well i've been a member on this forum for about 2 years and there have been many member that ask were they can buy, or if anyone makes the 1 3/4's .And i'm sure some will pay a pretty pennie to get a pair.If you need anything i'm always right next door.
I like your plan too. However that is easy for me to say, I don't have the investment. I think it is cool though. You would have to find a manual tranny car though, to make sure you get that aspect covered. Good luck I'll be watching, I would like a good set of headers. Dave
Ya, you can use my car (in fact, I would love for you to use my car)... I can bring you down the one car for our "Previously dicussed exhaust system" and you can also use it for this project or I can trailer one of the cars down there, and then drive the other one up there as well, and you can use both... or one or the other.... So thats a YES!!!! from me...
I know that Patriot brand shorties wont fit a Maverick/Comet . . . floor shift or column shift. I dont know about the other brands of shorties. I went with Heddman 1 5/8" Ceramic coated headers. IMO . . .It is gonna take some SERIOUS horsepower to make 1 3/4" beneficial, even with a 351W
Just depends on combo. I have seen a few dynos and 1 3/4 really helps healthy 302 strokers and 351 windsors. Stock heads no way. Aftermarkets
Jamie if you make these I will take a set. I hate making headers. I already started a set of 1 and 3/4s for my brothers. I can a wait a couple of months for a worthy product. Besides saves me 25-35 hrs of labor
Your Hedmans fit w/ a column shift? Shaunh, The headers are in trim cutting (a process where they cut the bent pieces to size). Unfortunatly, we have invetory right now which slows the process down a little. Dave, I havent test fit these with a column shift yet. I 'm going to try these on Sean's Comet right before SEMA, or right after. Around the end of this month. To me (and other trustworthy sources) it looks like they will fit the column shift cars. But again, I need to see them on the car before I make any promises. Jay, your car is just to damn pretty for me to touch . I will call you if I need you for anything. You are good people! But your right, I could do a 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" step header just as easy....I'm thinking high rpm race car here. Keep the comments coming. Even if you dont need or want a set of 1 3/4" headers. I agree. Stock heads aren't gonna flow enuff to make 1 3/4" work. I think you have to eclipse 500 hp to make the bigger tubes beneficial.
