best cam to use with gt40 heads??

    I've got a rebuilt 86 roller cam block with some gt40 irons going on it. I'll be running a weiand stealth, and a good carb.

    I like the tfs stage 1 cam for efi mustang applications, and the price is great, but is this an ideal cam for carb'd engines too??

    I could run an alphabet cam, but which one? I'm looking for some good lope, but not too wicked, and have no emissions testing to worry about.

    my buddy has 92 mustang 5.0 basicly the same set up and he runs a i believe he said its a F303 something like that 500+ lift very nice lope and very strong though out the power band

    Unless those GT40 heads have better valvesprings and some porting any cam over .500" lift is a waste. You can pick up B and E alphabet cams cheap, but they're 20 year old technology. F cams seem to work best with forced induction. I was considering a TFS Stage 1 for my carbed 5.0 but ended up getting an Edelbrock Performer RPM retrofit instead. It keeps the old 15426378 firing order and the distributor drive gear is compatible with all factory supplied distributors. It's a cast SADI core like the alphabet cams have and works good as long as you don't go nuts with spring pressures. Something to consider if you're not running the EFI/computer.

    I am using an e Cam and it's a soild performer. I agree with BMCdaniels though. It is older technology. I'm ditching mine in the very near future for a custom grind. I did manage a 12.65#107mph in the 1/4

    I really like the tfs cam, and the price too. We ran it in my bro's 86gt/explorer engine project. I'll likely go with that one, and make sure my valve springs can handle it.

    Stick with the TFS cam. Works great with a carb setup. Did an engine with that setup for my nephew and it's a blast. Lots of throttle response and pulls right up to 6500 rpm with no problem. Even more fun with a four speed. :D
