I was out for a drive last Saturday..and on the way home I noticed my rad was leaking a bit, not suprising since the car sat for 6 years before I bought it, so I pull the rad and drop it off at my buddys shop, while that was out I decided to replace the water pump, since it was leaking out of the bearing area, but to get the water pump off a 302 with air and power steering can be tricky, then I figured since the air wasn't holding a charge, I should disconnect it, so I pulled the lines and the compressor, then the heater hoses look pretty ratty, so they'll have to be changed, then all the pulleys and brackets look rusty, so I'll have to bead blast them and repaint them (but it's raining tonight), then the power steering bracket will look bad not to mention the alternator and brackets, but then I'm planning on pulling the motor this fall (which is almost here) and dropping in the 5.0L HO I have.... but what about the mini-meet in Toronto this Saturday, and the meeting I have at 8 am tomorrow.....Man there is never enough time ...
That is what is called " The Snowball Effect". You start out with something relatively simple and it snowballs into a major undertaking. It happens to us all the time.
sounds like a fun night. with the rad out and being fixed you should have enough down time to deal with that other crap.
only difference, gene has dirty windows j/k, seams like it happens to all of us ,one thing leads to the next...
I was $40 away from having the mav on the road.....then when i was going to install the PS pump i had just repainted, then i thought that i should paint all the brackets...2 months later the engine is sitting there w/o alt,brackets,carb,dist....i'm using this time to clean up the support and paint the engine bay....same thing happened with the interior i was going to weld the cat hole. then i pulled the whole carpet, all the seats and the steering wheel. But i love it
went to go change the starter on my strait 6, i got so frusterated with the trans lines 1/2 hour later i pulled the engine!!!!!!! and that night had a 5.0 short block sitten there to go in it!!!!!!. still not in it thow!
The famous four words of auto restoration are "while you're at it". They also call it scope creep. Peter Egan once did a funny article on replacing a master cylinder on his old MG, and the new MC looked funny on the old firewall, so a MC turned into a complete under hood restoration. We have all been down that road.
May as well buy new radiator hoses while you're at it. And while you have the water pump off, may as well put in new timing gears and chain.
