ive been searching on and off for a tank for my 74 and have had no luck. after reading some old posts i saw that napa makes a repo for the 76 but would that work in a 74?
my biggest concern would be the fuel sender not being even close to the same. anyone have pics of a 76 fuel sender?
what other odds and ends would i need if i were to go with the 76 tank.
any and all suggestions welcome and appreciated

you will need the 75-77 straps to hold the bigger tank...i went with the 76, but now i wish i would have used a mustnag one they are way cheaper($80 w/sender)...they can hold about 20gallons and best of all they alow an easy installion of dual exhaust...Just my:2cents:

Really? I thought mustang tanks were mostly drop in style? after 70 Mavericks strapped on from underneath? Wasn't there a link the other day with new Maverick gas tanks made for Mavericks?

so if i went with the 76 tank basically all i would need was the longer srtaps. and possibly a new sender? does anyone have pictures of the 76 sender so i can see how different it is compared to the earlier years.

i really dont mind the added space it may take up simply because i have a 6 and dont plan on changing that. i just need the car for a driver not a street strip car.

NAPA carries the gas tanks and straps for 76' and 77' Mavericks. That's where we got ours. The bad part is that nobody reproduces the sending units for them. AutoKrafters has the sending units for the earlier tanks, but they will not work on the 76' and 77' tanks. You would have to find a used one for those gas tanks.

I dont see why the early sending unit will not work in the later tank. The way I see it, at worst, it would not be able to empty the tank all the way but it should still work. It bolts up the same. Any ideas?

The 1977 fuel sender is longer when compared to the repops currently being reproduced ...so a shorter one should work as Mavaholic described.

i was assuming the way it mounted to the tank was the same just wasnt sure of the angle/length of the pickup was different. the way i see it i shouldnt have a problem making the older one work. afterall its only tubing and could be heated and massaged to get a better angle.
i think i might have to look into ordering one from napa. thanks for the replys guys.
