When I shut the Mav off I get a slight shudder (vibration) in the front end. It's a rebuilt 250 with a reman-ed single barrel. Carb adjustment ?. If so, where can I find info on adjusting air/fuel for a carter single ? The reason I think it's a carb adjustment needed is that when I start it the motor races till I kick it down. I could see this happening when it's cold out but not during warm weather. Any info appreciated.
    Thanks, Darrel

Where I usually start is the Idle mixture. Turn all the way in (don't tighten) turn 2.5 turns out. Start car and warm it up. Set idle speed with the stop screw. Check timing. turn idle mixture in till it runs bad then back out slightly. Reset idle with stop screw. manually set fast idle cam on second to highest step and use fast idle screw to set idle to about 1000 RPM. This won't be perfect but it sets a baseline. Fast idle speed and idle RPM do have specs but a lot of people have their own preferences. You might turn the choke a little leaner too.

Thanks Comick76. I pulled the air cleaner off to further investigate and noticed moisture (gas) laying on the carb . Also, all of the vac. plugs are cracked and falling apart. I need to find a diagram showing where the vac. lines should be, and go over the whole thing. Carb is a Carter rebuilt by Holley.
I also think that some of the shudder might be from the tranny. I think the linkage needs adjusted. Today when I fired it up, stepped on the pedal to get it to kick down it jumped into reverse ! :yikes:.

Check the motor/trans mounts that can cause the sudden reverse action. Had a 68 F100 run thru a shop door because of that.

vac lines and gas in the carb....sounds like you found the problem. I got some experience with those carbs. My 71 E200 used one similar on a 240 ci and my comet used to be a 250 ci. Had float issues with both. A dirty gas tank caused several fuel filter and eventual needle and seat problems in the van. You should probably rebuild the carb. It's not too hard and the kit is pretty cheap.
