We just picked up another Maverick this past Friday. A guy we know has had this car for years and finally decided to sell it. It's a 1977 two door, 250 automatic, power steering and a 3/4 white vinyl top. It's red with a red bench seat interior and the wide, side moldings with white inserts. It's not all that pretty right now. The guy bought the car 15 years ago for his daughter to learn to drive on. After she got her license, she bought another car and the Maverick was parked. It remained parked for the past 15 years on a paved driveway and left to the elements. We bought it for $350. Here's the good things about it: there is absolutely no bondo anywhere on the car. It has never been wrecked and there are all of two small dents on the entire body. Other than those two dents, the body is as straight as an arrow. There are no rust holes in the hood lip either. The car came with a brand new carpet and custom floor mats from Auto Custom Carpets still in the box. The former owner bought them 10 years ago and never installed them. The cowl has no rust holes in it either. The car does have some rust issues. The bottom of the quarters in front of the wheel openings have rusted through and the torque boxes are long gone. There are a few rust holes in the floor and one in the frame, but they all are easy fixes for us. The seats and vinyl top are shot, and mice ate through the wires for the front parking lights. The transmission has a front seal leaking and the gas tank is leaking too, but what do you expect for a car that has sat for 15 years? But here's the clincher. After adding oil and antifreeze ( the rad. is new too) and installing a new battery, the car started right up and it runs like a champ. No smoking or knocking in the engine at all. We ran a hose from the fuel pump into a can of fresh gas once we knew the tank leaked. Once this car is road worthy again, it will be my daily driver. I took a few pics of it. My husband Dale was so eager to tear into it, he had the seats out before I could get a good picture of the interior. He just loves having a new toy to play with.
Yep, it has sport mirrors. It still has the original AM radio in it too. Trust me, that will have to go. Ther's nothing good on the AM channels around here and I have to have my tunes.
Great score Jean! Are you missing the front windshield trim? Are you getting rid of the side trim? Probobly not...
Great news! I'm glad to see you guys have another Maverick project. It was time for a new goal anyway. The Stallion was perfect - nothing else to do on it - time to move on. "Families that build Mavericks together, stay together." Good luck with the rebuild. Progress pics please?
That looks great, Jean! Now how about a Stallion clone? If anybody can pull it off, I know ya'll can!
