While the pics were loading I read the description of the car. Sounded half way decent. Once the pics loaded and I studied the car, I realizied that this is one rough car!! It has major rust from being stored in a barn and the earth under it just rotted the car. I have had experience with cars like this and they can be a complete nightmare. I was seriously thinking of bidding and bidding up to a couple grand till I came to the conclusion that it is at most a $1000.00 car. What do you all think?

I think $1000 would be a little generous. I bet if you see it in person it is way worse under there.

    Dan,

I know you are a very capable body and paint man, so I believe you could manage such an undertaking. I myself would run away like a scared rabbit as my paint and body skills on a scale of 1 to 10 might be a 3. I doubt I would pay more than a 1000.00 myself. Total restoration or nothin. However if the car is honestly a rare car then it might be worth saving if kept original.

ps also your stallion is looking hella cool man.....I have maverick envy.

At first glance it looks like a pretty decent restoration job. At second glance, that baby is gonna need a ton of work to get it up to snuff. The first thing that comes to mind is floor pans, frame rails, inner quarters, all the nice stuff that goes to hell in a hand basket from sitting so long. It,s the rust you can't see that can spell the difference between a restorable car to a parts car. It's too bad they did'nt show any pictures of the bottom of the car. Then again it might scare away any potenial buyers. Taking all that into consideration, plus the interior work and what ever mechcanical work it needs ( most likely lots of it), I'd offer the guy no more than $400. for it. No matter how rare it might be, just think how much you would have to sink into in the end. Kind of a scary thought.

What a great car that would be to restore. I'm thinking that with the amount of rot that it has, you'd be looking at having either some serious skills, or, some serious cash.

Brown with yellow stripes, can't say that I have seen that combination before!

    .

Boy, with the rus on that back fender/quarter panel, that would be tough to restore. I don't think there's really any fixing that, you'd have to cut the rusted out metal out and somehow weld a new piece in. But like you guys said, it's probably like that on the whole underside of the car.

I am glad he is trying to keep the car original vs. parting it out to someone, but did you get the part about the hood? He was offered $800.00 for a rusted Grabber hood. That has to be a new record! The NOS Grabber hood on ebay last year never hit that high! if I recall . . . didn't hit reserve and was dented.

I would say strictly a parts car...not worth restoring. Like Jean said...it's the rust you "can't" see!!!

    It hit reserve.

    Currently $1,475.00!

Any bets on how high it goes! I say $1,700.00, now keep in mind I never thought it would go as high as it is now!

    $1,475!!!

Wow, I never thought it would get anywhere near that high. On one hand I'm happy to see that this car is going to get rescued. On the other hand, I can't imagine who is paying that kind of cash for this car.

I have to be honest, it made me go out and look over my 71' Grabber again. I have been struggling with what to do with it, I keep waivering back and forth to restore it or part it out because it is in similar condition. :(

I have to almost chuckle though, it made me think for a split second that my Grabber was worth a lot more than I paid for it. Although, I paid a lot less for it, than what this one is going for! :D. and the hood is in better condition! :)

I really never thought it would hit reserve.

It could quite possibly be a friend jacking up the price for him. Every time I see a bidder with a zero record, , I figure its a made up name. On the other hand, it could be some guy who really dont know and is in for a major dissapointment when he finally gets it.
