I am FINALLY working on my AOD swap. Today I pulled out my c4 and in the next couple of days I will be putting in the AOD that has been waiting for over a year.

Question 1: Where do I get a correct speedo gear to correspond with 3.89 gears?

Question 2: I measured the convertors bolt spaing and the new one is 8" and the old one is 7.5". I need to find a flywheel that will work with the old 28 oz. balanced motors and have the new 8" convertor bolt pattern. Anybody know what will work? I am going to research some early Mustangs and trucks.

My neighbor is going to build a crossmember for me. I hope the fron yoke on the old driveshaft fits in to the new tranny, I forgot to check before I closed up the garage tonight. If it dosn't I have a yoke from a mustang that should work. I am also going to try to get this to work with my Granada floor shifter so it still looks old school. Should be fun with a full manual valve body (y) I'll try to take some pictures as I am puting it in.

My C4 speedo gear was pretty close with my AOD, I didn't change it. I was about 5mph off at 60mph due to a rear end swap, it stayed the same with the AOD.

For the flywheel, you need a 164 tooth 28oz imbalance flywheel, should be found on Tbirds, trucks with a 302/351W/351C and a C4.

I didn't have to change my driveshaft or yoke, worked just fine.

The biggest problem I had was keeping the column shifter, gotta redo my setup, and my long tube Hooker Supercomps hit the tranny pan, so I notched the pan a bit, need to redo that as well.

For the record, I used an 85/86 AOD from a crown vic.

TOday I bought a flywheel that was listed for , among other things, a 77 Maverick with a c4 or Automatic overdrive transmission. I didn't think they were available in a Maverick but that is what my Pioneer book said at my Checker store. (Yes it is MY Checker Auto store because I manage it :)).
I also researched and found that a mini starter that was original on a 93 Mustang will fit with that starter. That should make header clearance a little easier. Now I just need to buy some AN fittings and -6 hose to plumb the cooling system for the tranny and a new fluid cooler with threaded fittings and I will be ready to put everything back togethor.

Good luck with it. As far as I know the big bellhousing C4 was never offered, and I'm certain the AOD was not. AOD's first year model was 85 as far as I can tell, if I'm off, it won't be by more than a year or so.

THe flywheel is the same one as listed for earlier t-birds and later LTDs and I think early 80s mustangs. It was the 14.?" diamaeter as compared to th original flywheel that was 13.?" diameter. I am sure it was the right flywheel, just thought it was odd the book listed it for overdrive in a Maverick.
