need help on the roof. ( update ) I wanna take the chrome strips off the roof how. do you get them off.
If you're talking about the mouldings that cover the edge of the drip rails, and you DO intend to put them back on, you have to remove them VERY carefully. There are a couple methods: you can use 2 small screwdrivers and starting at one end gently prying the moulding away from the drip rail. I've also used a bottle opener wrapped with tape for padding to pry it off. I can't stress enough that you must go SLOW and use gentle pressure as it is very easy to damage. You can't be in a rush, and you can't force it off or it will be rendered useless. Good luck.
While sitting on the front seat with the door open .... Take a block of wood and lay it right underneath the edge of the chrome ... tap the block with a hammer and the chrome will pop off ... slowly work your way down using this method. The chrome at the very end is a seperate peice ... and really can't come off without distorting it a little bit ...
Never under stood the block method...until now. Thanks for explaining it better. Also a good way to practice(if your putting them back on) is to go to the junkyard and practice on the cars there.
A paint stick works great too. But He's probably talking about the trim for a Halo top or one of those weird things Mavericks had in which cause they can still be pried of. I'd try to save them because somebody will probably need them.
Yep! There have been times though that I have come across cars that had parts I needed that someone had destroyed "practiceing" on. Such as perfect Sprint door panels. So I would suggest practiceing on cars or parts that are in bad condition and don't appear they would have any value to someone else.
There are two nuts just inside the trunk at the very bottom of the trim. Take those off. Now slide the entire trim piece forward (or is it backwards?) about an inch an the entire trim will pop right off....leaving the plastic attachment clips on the roof. Those pop right off.
One nut each side I think, this is exactly what I have to do, need to take the top to bare metal and remove surface rust, and I want these Out of the way. How about how do you remove, the Trim around the windows?
thanks guys. i went out there today and took the chrome strip off. i tried to slide it but snce it dident i just pulled it off. then the pop rivits. i snaped the heads off with snippers. then grounded the neck down smooth with an file. then i bondoed the holes and sanded them down. next i painted it primer grey so no surface rust would build up and i got to kinda see the finish product. i want to thank all of you for helping me.
You really need to weld the holes. Bondo might be alright now, but a few years down the road? Sure would suck to get your car painted and have your paint job ruined because you cut corners filling the holes.
