Besides the fact that it was 98* with the heat index! I race bracket 2 "no-electronics" 2nd round I went of against a malibu My reaction time was a .030(green) I ran a 6.651 on a 6.65 dial-in You would think I had a good chance of winning.....right? a .031 package in a no-electronic class is OK, not great, but OK. well, the chebby ran a 7.311 on a 7.31 dial BUT, that &$@)#($() chebby cut a .000 (GREEN) What do you do when that happens? well, when he is pitted 4 cars down from you, you walk over to him, and "smack the $*%) out of him" Just kidding. We just laughed about it and had a cold drink, since I was done racing, mine was a REAL COLD drink It was my first time racing in over a year and you cannot mad at yourself when someone puts a .001 package together.
i made 1/4s in baytown sat night we got rain had to dry the track two hours late running then i tried to sand bag a sand bager with a 11.40 i broke out with a 11.32 on the brake but it was fun made 4 rounds puts me in about 10th in points is anyone going to Texas to run in the nhra bracket finals in sept i will be their with the baytown boys
Ivy, a few of my Mustang friends run the 'instant green' on Sundays at HRP. I've been a few times but it's not very entertaining to watch as they don't show the e.t.'s/mph's. You ever run the Instant Green's?
Racin story Our day at the track was kind of similiar, had both Mav's and my Fairmont. Temp was hovering at 100, inside car was 130, Mont and I went three rounds and got plain beat by a 460 stang. Jr. went out in two with a red eye, Mavman did go to quarters but lost to a Dodge. Felt kind of proud when all three of us had won in the same round. Jr's mav wiith a mild 302 was up against a shortened home built dragster of sorts running a chebby. At the 1/8th(we run 1000ft) his stock balancer ring came off and hit the poor mav in the rear quarter panel making quite a dent. The "SOB" never even came over or said a word, from the looks of his ride thats not all thats going to come off someday. Had to hold back on opening that can of whoop-ass cause we would get fined and penalized, plus did not want to lower myself to his level. The point here is that in racing, there is always an element of risk. I myself had two stock balancers come apart but not shotgun into anything. Went to a sfi fluid type and ended that problem. Safety is always first on our cars but sometimes you miss the obvious(cracked rubber etc. on the balancer for one). Any of you guys twisting over 6500, please check out that whoopty-do on the end of the crank. The safety record at our track is excellant but sh** can happen when least expected. Moral of this story is "Those chebby's get so mad at the Mav's beating them that now they are starting to throw things at them"
Darn good advice, so my list of things to do this winter now includes new balancer. Motor is coming out anyways for detailing. Thanks and love those racin stories. Dan
Sounds like you have the Mav. runing pretty good John like you said thats part of racing sounds like it had to be very close good luck next time.
I agree about safety..... especially after this weekend at the track. They had the monthly Pro street car shoot-out and I spent alot of my night down near the "big end" of the track watching those guys run. Just makes you wonder if they ever think about "lifting" when you see the car swaying side to side at a 145 mph? " Thanks Wilbur, Its running OK. Like I said its been over a year since I last raced and it sure was good sitting in the staging lanes before the 1st round of eliminations and feeling those "little butterflies" in the old stomach
