just an FYI, I drove to Owensboro today to make the final visit and what not before the Round-up. 1st stop: Tourist Commision. Talk to the lady for a few minutes.....did not know Johnny Depp was from Owensboro 2nd stop: Drag Strip: Everything is looking good, track looks great. I ask about passenger rides...he said only for 8.50 and slower (which is the samething the owners last year said) 3rd stop: Hotel. Same parking lot will be roped off for our trailers as last year. I ask about a few people that had trouble last week with getting rooms; they reminded me that our "block" reservation was up 30 days prior to event. She also said they would do everything they could to honor our "package". (If anyone tries to make a late reservation and has trouble, let me know and I will see if I can help) 4th stop: Ryans Steakhouse were the club will have dinner Saturday night.....I got a free meal :bananaman guess there are a few perks that come with hosting. 5th stop: Reid's Orchard......it is a cool little place, they will have plenty activities for the younger kids. It should be alright. Definitely bring your cameras...should make for some good photo op's with your car. *gas was $2.75 in Owensboro for regular unleaded...for those that might want to know. *So everything is looking good....I hope everyone has a safe trip.
i'm really looking forward to coming to the roundup. i'm sure you'll put on a first class show. i do want you to know how much i appreciate all the work that's going in to this. NOW quit using up all the perks!!!!!
Now, now, John....you forgot to tell them how pleasant the weather is! Sorry I couldn't hook up with you, but I'm working like crazy right now. I just came off 24 at the FD this morning, and had to go in to the other place at 4 and do 16 there! I HATE vacation time of year. Sounding good though! Good Job. Later,
No problem Tom...... As far as the weather....well, it was 93* (I think) with a heat index of 110* (I know)
whic reminds me....at Windy Hollow today. AFCO had rented the track to test some new shocks they have. I watched a chassis olds cutlas make a couple passes. The driver said the car usually 1.20-1.21 sitxy foot. After he made the 1st pass, he got back to the pits complaining that the track was too slick.....thats when the track boss handed them the time slip with a 1.19 sixty even in those conditions and no one on the track, it was still hooking good.
Almost forgot a couple more things..... For those that will be there on Tuesday, I am working on getting us on the radio and TV. Malcom West who some remember from last year, does a show on Tuesday nights at BW3's.....working on getting the MCCI some air time. Also, the new track owner is sponsered by Texas Roadhouse, he said he would try to get us some discounts or free stuff for TR....I told him to plan on us eating there Wednesday night, so if your interested, just let me know when you get there.
I would like to know what time the Drag Racing Begins and ends , And how supper time works into the schedule on that day.
Cool... I cant wait to see a lot full of Mavericks and meet everyone! I have not seen a Maverick/Comet in person since last summer!!!
That means track temp was 110 with a 130 degree index...nice and comfy in the old firesuit....if there not too picky I'm gonna try and get by with a single layer jacket and jeans:16suspect It would be great if we had temps like last year and the year before
