So, I know you're not supposed to mess with the VIN plate or any of that, right. But, what if you wanted to swap the entire dash? The dash would have the VIN plate from whatever car the dash came from which I would think would be considered altering the VIN of the car you are putting it into. And, if you were to swap the correct VIN to the new dash, that would be tampering with the VIN plate... How could you legally swap the dash and keep the correct VIN? I am about to remove the dash from my Grabber to further inspect the damage, and when the car is fixed I don't intend to reuse the glove box dash. Why couldn't they have made them like old Mustangs... Sorry, not sure what section this should go in.
You still need to swap vin numbers. If you put a replacement dash and keep its vin number you are asking for big problems. Its ok to change vin numbers when replaceing a dash. The big problem is when you change numbers on the same car. Thats a no-no.
Ok, I just thought you weren't supposed to remove or mess with the plate at all, since it's riveted to the dash. Just dont want any surprises later down the road...
It's done every day Jamie. They don't worry about the old cars like ours such as they would the late model cars. All the chop shops deal in late model and exotic cars. Like Dennis said, all we got is a bunch of dumb ole Mavericks. That's what I like them to think...they'll leave us alone. :evilsmile
Just drill out the rivets and install the plate on the new dash with rivets so it will look original. Done it before on VWs and a Datsun pu. As long as the numbers match the frame or other body numbers, nobody will ever know the difference...
