Hey you Comet gurus out there, can anyone tell me the for sure way to tell if a Comet is a GT or a clone? I just purchased a 72 Comet GT it has all the features of a GT except it has a column shift, this is the second one of these I have run into, both had blacked out tail light panel, highback buckets, blacked out grill, blacked out headlight rings, deluxe door panels, hood scoop and Comet badging. I know this has probably been discussed before but I have tried search feature and had no luck.

I believe the only way to tell for sure is to get one of those Marti reports on it. Not sure about that though.

I read up on that when I went for my car :bananaman and I heard there's no real way from the VIN so I agree with Jamie, the Martie report's probably your best bet.

There is now way to tell for sure other than Marti and he only goes up to 73. The Ford history report might if you could get them to research it properly but so far I havent seen one that was.
