I'm going to go the Mustang II suspension route with my 69 1/2 and have been searching for a rear sump oil pan for a 351 Cleveland with no luck. I believe the 351/400M is the same. Would anyone know of a source for a new pan and pickup? Thanks much.
Canton and Moroso makes a rear sump oil pan for the 351c/ foxbody conversion. These will probably work with what you're trying to do. I belive the 351-400m truck pans are more of a mid sump pan. Bryan
Try Northern Auto Parts. I got my 302 pan from them and they had the best price. They probably have what you're looking for. My '81 Ford Pickup has a rear sump pan on the 400, which should be the same as a 351C/351M/400...
I was looking at the Canton pans and they even have a notch out for the stock crossmember in the Fox chassis but I was hoping to just get a stock truck rear sump pan. I already emailed Northern Auto Parts and used T.L's application of 81 Ford truck 400M and I'll see what they can come up with. I spent the good part of last night surfing for a stock truck pan and they must be second most rare item next to the Shelby Maverick emblems. LOL!
I have a fox body car with a 408 cleveland in the shop right now. Not sure if it will help but I can take some pics of it on the car so you can see what it looks like. Its a moroso pan and appears have a slight sump in the front. The car is has a tubular k member and manual steering. Might help you out . Let me know. Jamie
Jamie, your photos would certainly help. You can post them here or send them to mav1970@yahoo.com I agree that the Canton pan would be the way to go but just wasn't sure that it would clear the Mustang II crossmember like it was designed to clear in the Fox frame. At least with cheap pan, I can use it for pre-fit and then maybe pick up the better pan later, if I'm sure it will work. Thanks for all of the help.
Update Well, after trying to be thrifty (hate to use the word "cheap") and searching everywhere for a rear sump Cleveland pan, I finally set my mind to the fact that the Canton pan was going to be the very best choice for application and quality. I finally found a guy selling a Canton pan on Ebay that he bought with intentions of putting a 351c in his Fox Mustang but instead it sat on a shelf unused and his buy it now price was 150.00 and included the pickup. Much better than the 300.00 price tag that Canton wanted. FYI- -I did look at circle track and road race pans with the trap doors, that might have worked, but who knows if headers would clear the kickouts. Thanks again for everyone's imput.
