Pretty neat car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercury-Comet-77K-Miles-1976-76-Maverick-Street-Drag-Race-Car-Supercharged-302_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ5367QQihZ006QQitemZ160003086024QQrdZ1
clearance implies that there is some space i'll bet they get about 400-500 miles before the sidewall fails
Yeah, that's a little too close for comfort for me too. Heck, I'd just keep the tires and grind some clearance on the springs in those areas (maybe an 1/8"-3/16"?). Looks very nice.
I would be scared to run the rubber that close to the leaf springs myself... Tires expand and contract when driving, not to mention flexing when cornering or going over bumps. IMO those are blowouts about to happen. Other than that, like I said in the other thread, someone put plenty of thought into that car. Probably Wheel Vintiques rims Shaved towers Gutted and tucked bumpers are a real plus to the appearance. My son and I were talking and he thinks the engine is a grenade waiting to go off. I don't think it has that much power though. He thought 400-450 with the blower, then another 100 on the bottle = split block. Dave
Not so strange ... once you know how the codes work. First two digits are the DO or District Office. (look it up in the shop manuals if you don't believe me - DO not DSO.) Ok, Ok, we all use DSO to describe the DO, kinda like saying POSI for a Traction-Lok. DSO stands for Domestic Sales Order which is a special ordered car by a dealer or customer. The DSO is the DO plus 4 digits that represent the number for the special order placed by that DO. The first car ordered would be 0001, and the second 0002 and so on. The car we are looking at was the 15th special ordered by DO 33 (since this is a Comet, that would be Cleveland - Ford would be Detroit) = DSO 330015 That is the 6 digit number, a real DSO not just the DO you are seeing. Remember where you heard it Eric J (PS - District Sales Office is not a real FORD term - again, just something we all have said for DSO for years)
Yes - Ford used DSO and it means District Special Order / Domestic Sales Order - all having to do with a cars ordering. It does not mean District Sales Office - Ford only refered to their offices as District Office or DO. Look in a Ford shop manual for proof. Again, it is a term that has been used forever by everyone. But that doesn't make it correct.
