I was lead to a Maverick, '73 Grabber, and was told a price of $2500. Maybe I expect too much for that kind of cash. What is to be expected for that amount in your opinions?
Last year, I bought a rust-free, running '73 Grabber with 302, auto, factory A/C and P/S. It needed interior work like a new headliner, new carpet, a new door handle, and new front seat. It needs a paint job, but is not bad for a daily driver. I paid $2,500 for it.
I expect it to be in pretty good shape. Rust free and maybe a little rough around the edges, but definitely running and driving. Any visible rust knock off $1,000 at least.
It really boils down to what you are willing to buy for that kind of money. There are great deals out there for a couple of hundred bucks but they are few and far in between, especially if your looking for one. In my opinion $2500 should buy you a decent driver which probably has some rust and so so interior. Be patient grasshopper, a good deal could be just around the corner.
I was told little rust on the rear quarters, so I figure right at the bottom behind the rear wheel. Well it's there, along with on the top edge of the wheel well, and hit and miss around the wheel opening. Pass. door needs straightend and repaired, and the interior needs carpet, headliner, I was going to throw in different seats and brackets anyway, but are needed in this, and a dash pad. The motor is a supposid runner, but he converted to an electronic distributor and put in an MSD, and now gets no spark haha. Aftermarket cam, aluminium intake and aftermarket carb that's on it means nothing to me as far as re-sale, because you never get that money back out of it. I look at this and think it's a 1500 dollar car max, but hate to low ball him since he works with a friend, and I'm a nice guy untill provoked. I was just making sure I wasn't crazy and this isn't like a Mopar where a rusted out shell is still worth 6G's. Like I said in my noob post, I'm 24, but not new to cars by any means and have had my fair share of fun and fast rides, my last to coast to a 10.89 in the quarter haha. I was just double checking my instinct and making sure there wasn't somthing extra special about a '73 Grabber that I'm not aware of.
As far as I'm concerned, friends is friends and business is business. Make an offer, worst he can do is say no. Walk away with no hard feelings if he wont give the price you are willing to pay. Its not personal, its just business. I didnt come up with the saying, I read it some where and think it says it all. JMO
Yeah this is true, and I'm sure he won't get what he's askin' for it. I'll let him sit on it for a little bit then put an offer down. That will give me time to get my stand alone back for my Lightning and get it running. Thanks again, and once I get the Mav, project 347 and resto mod starts. :evilsmile
